>>2035 Used to dance. As I got older I lost interest. I used to frequent alternative/goth clubs. Get my stomp on. Never liked cybergoths. Never liked the style. And from my experience, people who put that much effort in to their fashion are almost always conceited and not really fun to be around. Plus their dance is soykaf & very repetitive.

I really love to dance. At the club, in my room, whatever. It just makes me feel good in my own body. A while ago, I read this passage by Amitav Ghosh, set in rural Egypt: The crowd pressed closer with the quickening of the beat, and as the voices and the clapping grew louder, the girl, in response, raised an arm and flexed it above her head in a graceful arc. Her body was turning now, rotating slowly in the same place, her hips moving faster while the crowd around her clapped and stamped, roaring their approval at the tops of their voices. Gradually, the beat grew quicker, blurring into a tattoo of drumbeats, and in response her torso froze into stillness, while her hips and her waist moved ever faster, in exact counterpoint, in a pattern of movement that became a perfect abstraction of eroticism, a figurative geometry of lovemaking, pounding back and forth at a dizzying speed until at last the final beat rang out and she escaped into the crowd, laughing. Ever since, I've found myself thinking about the function of dance as an "abstraction of eroticism", that is, an unsexual expression of sexuality. I encounter this most directly when I'm dancing under the influence of MD, where I feel and respond to some kind of sexual energy but am not aroused in the slightest. I guess it just find it interesting to walk down the line that divides the act and the emotion of sex, both of which obviously run very deep in the human psyche. Anyway, that's my 2c on dancing.

>>2035 This is actually something that has interested me. mostly, because people in my age group keep trying to get me to go to clubs with them, and then they laugh that I cant dance, but I really cant figure out how, and aside from meme dances like "twerking" or classic dace styles, there is virtually no guide on how to dance

>>2043 This is one reason I was attracted to punk rock. No one cares how you dance. There are fashion victims just as bad as this post described >>2036 but they are a minority and no one else really cares what you wear.

>>2038 >Ever since, I've found myself thinking about the function of dance as an "abstraction of eroticism", that is, an unsexual expression of sexuality. It can be. However, today's dance is mentally neutered. Dance can be a way to unify the physical and mental, not only as a stand in for sexual expression. I prefer to dance alone, out in the world, yet away from mundane eyes. There are forces that "science" remains willfully ignorant of, but which the ancients applied understanding to in a very methodical fashion. The "Whirling Dervish" are dancers with purpose who project into the world the spirit to which they are attuned. Their movement helped shape reality, and continues today. Dancing with the purpose of allowing the feedback of movement and sensation can help open the mind to new possibility -- Enable thinking outside the box. Some use dance as a method of scrying, gleaning wisdom from the flashes of sight and timings of sound. The "runner's high" can be achieved through dance, and when combined with breathing exercises is a powerful mind altering tool. Imagine being stumped on a problem, perhaps in programming. One's mind can only arrive at solutions it is currently aware of. Introducing chaos and new external input to form random connections is essential. Through the mentally and physically exhausting ordeal of dance one can become a crucible for transmuting seemingly pseudo-randomness into a new understanding or solution. This is but one higher minded use of dance. Our whole whorl is conceived of dance between Life and Death. We live at the intricate maddening interface where heaven and earth collide, a wave battered shore where the sun meets the surf. You join this Dance, or else Die. A simple fact of existence.

I was learning how to cut shapes/house shuffle (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETGwjrFhY4I) for a few months but I must have gotten some ligament or muscle torn because I was constantly in pain behind my knee for a week. After that I stopped but I really want to continue.
