I got turned onto PC Music in 2015 after hearing SOPHIE, and from there started to explore the label. A lot of the label such as Danny L Harle have said they were influenced by happy hardcore and nightcore. And when I was listening to PC Music folks on soundcloud, a lot of nightcore stuff would come up as the next related track. So now in recent years without intending to jump into these sub genres I frequently end up in the listening to the broad genre of what you're talking about: PC Music, Nightcore, modern Club etc etc. I like to think I'm fairly masculine and yet here I am listening to lots of high pitched, LGBT friendy girly music But the thing about it is that if you're European and have grown up with Electronic/Dance music, you really notice a lot of the throwbacks and nods the current generation do to the classics/founders, and it feels like a natural evolution or branch off from that. All the current generation I'm listening to all know their origins do come from the Eurodance scene like Gigi D'Agostino, Basshunter, Special D, etc and don't fight against it. They don't rehash their stuff but as said, they do little nods: the PC Music crowd will do it by subtle samples, whereas the nightcore crowd will work a throwback in during a mix session. Or another example was Danny L Harle and "MC Boing" doing an insane straight up tribute to crazy 2000s ravers with https://soundcloud.com/pcmus/boooiiinngg Crapface's likes page on Soundcloud is a gold mine for jumping into the general nightcore/PC Music/hyperpop/Happy dance sound: https://soundcloud.com/crapface/likes Anything new, bubbly and bouncy he's on it like a shot, adding it to his likes. A pretty decent producer in his own right as well. Another thing to put on the radar is Radio Y3K: https://soundcloud.com/y3krecords It's someone doing a 45 minute radio show in the form of a continuous mix and it tends to be really good. Whoever creates it keeps a solid enough eye as well on new releases. Besides what I've said above, like how it's an offshoot of the dance music I grew up with, I just enjoy putting this kind of stuff on if I've just read something soykafty in the news or any other bad vibe stuff. It's just good music for clearing your head.

Stuff like Happy Hardcore and Lolicore can be a bit nerve-jangling, but I like that sort of 90's chill upbeat EDM.
Elliot Alderson · 2018-03-27 23:07
>>1701 If you like that sort of music, there are a lot of European dance radio stations, you can webstream one https://www.technobase.fm/ their affiliates also play hardstyle (hardbase fm) and a few other genres, the radio is based out of Germany and has been streaming strong for years >>1702 >I like to think I'm fairly masculine and yet here I am listening to lots of high pitched, LGBT friendy girly music this usually happens to me, but it usually makes people laugh to see me listening to it, and they usually say its is quite catchy dj s3rl jhas free tracks on his site too. https://djs3rl.com/ Funny enough, I was jamming out to some tunes and a girl at my work (who is usually really shy) said "omg anon you listen to nightcore!!!!" and we talked about music for a while most modern EDM is pretty stale, and it is a shame that so many old school artists with unique sound (i used to be able to identify the artist by the unique note arrangements they commonly used) have either stopped producing, or started making generic normal person EDM some other would recommend artists >manian >crystal lake >mauro picotto for great remixes check out the future trance albums https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFvwrrMY-SM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HZQ54KDAGk

Nightcore? That's what we used to call Happy Hardcore.
Neo · 2018-03-28 00:22
>>1708 happy hardcore is more akin to hardstyle, nightcore is more like handsup/ or pop music but sped up and with an elevated pitch. they are different, both have a high BM. the difference can be seen with these videos nightcore https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCrLMwDz5qE happy hardcore https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRqAOyXL15Q hardstyle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8qgeGON_zM and a hardstyle remix of vocaloid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ufT9Py7g3w

>>1708 >>1709 apologizes, the song i posted for night core was actually happy hardcore, here is actual nightcore https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ziqtyseR3M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZM-pl9f-W28
Nguoi La · 2018-03-28 14:04
>>1708 Here's a handy rhyme I came up with the remember the difference: >Happy hardcore is for MDMA >nightcore's for weebs in their bedroom all day >hardsytle is similar but slightly slowed down >gabber's for people who don't fuarrrk around >but if you're a person who always needs more >and slightly insane, well then there's speedcore >if you mix up the genres, you won't pay a price >the music is loud but the people are nice!

The Newgrounds Audio Portal is great for finding free upbeat music. For example: https://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/737702

Here are some of my favorite upbeat and nightcore songs. I tried to include a wide variety and you may not like some of them. >>1715 I'm going to be mean with this comment, but here we go: Does that sound like every youtuber intro going because it's royality free, or is royality free because it sounds like every youtuber intro going? I liked tropical house when it first came out but God did it ever get run into the ground ever so quickly.

Anyone else here interested in making such music? I've tried making handsup before, but getting it sound right is very difficult for me. Melodies I make don't have that "happy" feeling to them, bass sounds odd and kick doesn't pop out enough without abusing sidechain compression. Are there any resources available regarding making such music? It would be fun, if there was an open-source music project so that people could collaborate and learn. I'm using LMMS, it's similar to early versions of FL studio.
Drifter · 2018-03-31 18:05
>>1728 heh, I was in your position a few years ago. I never did learn how to properly make this sound, but I did learn some things with a bit of practice. tempo should be between 150 to 170 you should use high pitched saw synths for the main melodies. the melodies should be on major scales and need to be very stuttery for the bass I just used one of the basses from nexus 2 the bass notes should be in between the kicks use lots of pads and layering if you plan to make original nightcore, make the song slower with the vocals in their original speed, and when you create the backing track, export it and do the usual speeding up and shifting up the pitch. these are just things I self taught. its not a perfect way of doing it, but its pretty close. still, there should be some more elaborate tutorials for this. the ones on youtube are very old and not very good I would also like to add that those mixing problems you had I've also never fully came across to resolving, but I get you! it always frustrated me how it would either sound really "empty" or sound really muddy
Celt.does.Radio. · 2018-04-01 02:15
>>1728 >>1729 FrankJavCee might put out a tutorial soon on his youtube channel, because he just did his own Nightcore track/remix on his soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/frankjavcee/american-boy
Delilah · 2018-04-01 09:11
>>1729 >the bass notes should be in between the kicks Try sidechaining the kick and the bass without leaving space between the bass notes, see if it sounds better.

>>1715 I used to always go to Newgrounds for music like this. I think I'm going to stick around and check out what's been recently uploaded on here. It's been some time since I've found some interesting music, watched some animations, and checked out any flash games.
Spike Spiegel · 2018-04-01 14:50
>>1729 Thanks for advice. Here is my upbeat/hands up attempt #223. Mastering and song structure still need some work, vocals could also be better, but I don't know where to get them.

>>1733 I may have a few vocal packs on a hard drive that I left at my parents house, I can try to get that tomorow
Hacker · 2018-04-01 20:30
>>1717 Same feeling, I recognize most of those titles. I can't say I enjoy most nightcore tracks anymore. Lain Iwakura · 2018-04-01 21:21
>>1733 are you looking for something like this? its just a vocal track from calvin harris
SHODAN · 2018-04-02 12:45
>>1736 Yes something like that could work, but I don't know how to approach incorporating this vocals in to this style of music. Problem is that singer is singing in a certain key. Most hands up uses very specific keys that have happy feeling to them (major scales), which also dictates certain chord progression. So to use such vocals one needs to either rewrite the melody to match the singing or use auto-tune to "fix" pitch/key. Former is probably a better approach, but since vocals in nightcore are already artificial, latter could also work.
Jens Hansen · 2018-04-03 00:30
>>1743 You COULD use vocaloid, but that depends on how artificial you want to sound https://www.vocaloid.com/en with tutorials https://www.vocaloid.com/en/articles/free_download https://ec.crypton.co.jp/pages/prod/vocaloid/cv01_us here is a remix pack from DJ s3rl https://djs3rl.com/shop/RP-Planet-Rave alternatively, you could autotune text to speach you could even synthesize voices from actual peoples voices using lyrebird https://lyrebird.ai/

This song definitely fits this happy rave style though it's definitely not nightcore/happy hardcore Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 400 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOcHZjMKBL8 I always wondered what this genre was. Everyone calls it techno but that's just plain wrong! Techno is dark and slow. Also, most of the songs in this style came out between the late 90s and early 2000s. Some people tell me this is just what house music sounded on that era. Would you say that this is house?
