Someone I know on discord shared your stuff, I think he said he saw your stuff on Lainchan? Maybe it was somewhere else. shouts out to yzzyx if he sees this. Anyways, I like your stuff. E.S.P is dope. I love the electronics and abrasiveness of it all. Vocal style on Fall is interesting.
btw here's a link to our discord server in case you or anyone else who sees it is interested. We talk about all kinds of stuff, but the focus leans towards experimental/dark art. we have a channel for drugs, dreams, and paranormal. Posting it here because I figured people from Lainchan would be the crowd we want.

My next release is going to be mostly punk style, although it's got a more lofi vibe than that album. Mostly doing it so I can have some hype tracks to perform live, it's a lot less polished but hopefully it'll be fun.

I've been making music in FL Studio for 3 years now, but I've done almost nothing in 2018. I peaked in 2017, realised that even my peak form is soykaf, and gave up. Now I've resigned myself to making slowed down versions, chops, edits, just fuarrrking around with audio and songs through equalisers, slowing down, reverb and decay.
I got about 12-14 hours of stuff in total and I haven't released any of those songs, they're just sitting in my folder and sometimes I've uploaded them to instaudio to show off.
A lot of my stuff was either experimental or trying to copy styles i liked. Also printed out low quality lofi soykaf with 0 quality control.
What I mean by the fuarrrking around thing: https://instaud.io/20rp vs https://instaud.io/20rt
One of the few songs I've tried to create this year: https://instaud.io/20rl
ambient/noise thing: https://instaud.io/20rk
Tried to imitate black metal with this but it turned out a bit different: https://instaud.io/20rj
Guitar ambience 2016: https://instaud.io/20rh
One of the last things I made in 2017, I don't know what to classify this as: https://instaud.io/20ri

Pirate FL Studio and watch tutorials for a day or two (I used BusyWorksBeats years ago for this), and then fuarrrk around for yourself for a few months to gain experience. I made absolute soykaf for half a year straight just to gain experience. You should play around with 3xOsc for a bit to get a sense how synthesisers work (waveforms, oscillators etc).
You need to download synths to import into FL Studio if you want richer sounds. DAWs use VST files for effects and synthesisers, so look for those. Some are free, some cost money, but they can be easily pirated as well. Even small VSTs like Synth1 (seems like a Chinese ripoff of Sylenth1) can produce a variety of sounds. Look for presets online for the synths you decide to download. You should also download ValhallaVintageReverb for reverberation effects, it allows for more control than the default FL Studio reverb (although that also has its uses and shouldn't be discarded completely). I also use PowerAmp3 for distortion, that's the toughest one to pirate and crack for me. Real pros use Nexus for synths but that's quite redundant if you're a noob.

Also you shouldn't make music to imitate some well known artist. You can copy their style for fun to get a hang of things but you should eventually branch out and make your own stuff. I tried to imitate Burial and Chicago footwork at first but I ended up making different stuff years later.

https://learningmusic.ableton.com/ will teach you general principles on DAWs and basic music production and writing.
https://www.syntorial.com/ Download the demo. It will teach you enough to get started with programming synths.
Learn an instrument. If you want to make music, you need to be a musician, otherwise you'll likely just be making sound collages. Get lessons from a teacher. Learn some basic music theory; check out Ongaku Concept's videos on Youtube, the very videos they uploaded. Use the concepts they talk about to write little songs to get them ingrained into your being. Also watch his videos on transcribing, as transcribing lets you understand how the music you like works compositionally.
Read about ear training, start with being able to hear intervals and chord qualities.
https://www.recordingrevolution.com/ This will get you started with mixing.

Pick a DAW with good included synths/effects so you don't have to dig around for VSTs to get good results. I'd recommend Ableton. Just know that it doesn't really work like other DAWs. Roughly speaking, most DAWs try to emulate a multitrack recording studio, Ableton works more like a modular synth/sampler system. I think the workflow is better for electronic music, unless you're married to the typical timeline/piano roll view. Renoise is my favorite (it's linux-native!), but it's also fuarrrking weird so I wouldn't recommend starting out with it.

>Learn an instrument. If you want to make music, you need to be a musician
You should learn to play an instrument if you want to play an instrument. Learning an instrument to make music in 2018 is a waste of time. Get a DAW. Learn some basic theory (scales, chords) because why not, it's so simple there's no reason not to and that's it. Make some music.

>Learning an instrument to make music in 2018 is a waste of time.
You clearly don't know what you are talking about.
There's a ENORMOUS difference between making music only by theory and making music in real time with the skills you learned playing something.
Hong, Guil Dong · 2018-04-18 08:14
>>1820
Like I said, if you want to play an instrument, learn to play an instrument. If you want to improvise in jazz or blues, go ahead. But if just want to make music that's not necessary anymore. You can spend a lot of time learning to play piano, learning how to play the chords to make a song or you can get a VST plugin that outputs a chord to your instrument with a click of a mouse and make a song now. You can even hook it up to a pad controller so you can physically trigger it and hear how different chords sound and work with each other in real time, just like you would on a piano, without actually learning to play the piano. Don't work hard, work smart. The audience doesn't care if you spend 5000 hours or 50, they only care about what they can hear.

Music can inspire action, thought, emotion, all sorts of things. There are many reasons to make it and not a single "point". If I have to explain this then I doubt you'll be making anything worth listening to no matter what tools you choose. This mentality that you don't need to actually learn about music to make it, as long as you have some buttons to push, results in a lot of boring bullsht flooding the internet. No one's forcing me to listen to any of it of course.

Firstly I would like to point out that I can play multiple instruments and have studied theory myself, and that I have experience in a wide variety of genres not just electronic.
>Music can inspire action, thought, emotion, all sorts of things. There are many reasons to make it and not a single "point".
Ignoring the fact that this goes against what I was replying to in the first place, you are confusing cause and effect. You're right that music can do all those things, but that doesn't have to be the "goal" of music. Many people make music and never release it because the act of creating is enjoyable or cathartic in itself.
>If I have to explain this then I doubt you'll be making anything worth listening to no matter what tools you choose.
I am >>1588 so please feel free to criticize my music. (I am well aware that my album is flawed, I'm working on improving for my next release)
>This mentality that you don't need to actually learn about music to make it, as long as you have some buttons to push, results in a lot of boring bullsht flooding the internet.
My good friend, what gives you the right to tell anyone what they need to or do not need to do to make the art they want to? You are simply valuing some parts of music over others arbitrarily. A sound engineer might not know about functional harmony, but they might know more about the frequency response of certain microphones. Neither of these things is more or less important because music is subjective. I love punk music, and half of those guys can't play their instruments. Jazz which we now see as one of the most technical forms of music was once considered to be breaking all the rules. Your personal taste (which is valid) is completely separate to some objective idea of value placed on music or any art for that matter.
Polite sage for off topic.

Thanks man I appreciate it, I also do hip-hop/trap beats and such on my PC so that’s helped me learn the producing and technical side, I’m actually probably better right now with my beats than with an actual instrument, but I’m still gonna stick with both. It kinda gives me two different mediums to express myself and my interests.
I got some way better audio gear since then too like an audio interface and microphone so I released a couple of other songs on there.
here’s something I released a couple days ago, kind of inspired by a mix of Death Grips, Kanye West’s Yeezus, and Metroid. I wanted to see how far I could push my skills into one beat while giving a sense of story telling through the instrumental. It turned out sounding like a film score: https://soundcloud.com/guddboi-beats/osom

Attempting constructive criticism
>>1834
Beat's pretty hard but could use some more sub, but mostly the screams are way too loud in the mix. You should try cutting some of the low end off your screamed vocals and add some reverb to make it sound more black metally. Keep at it.
>>1900
I like this beat, especially the weird off-grid hat pattern and the bass. The mix is a little muddy maybe some eqing could fix it.
>>1908
This soykaf's fire. Super weird and wacky but still catchy enough to make you bob your head. Only criticism I can think of is that your drums sound a little dry, maybe throw some extra compression and reverb on there. Compression and reverb fixes everything.
>>1909
I've heard your stuff before but for some reason I wasn't following you. Good selection is a fuarrrking tune I'm definitely throwing that in my next set.

We're talking about composing here. You're spilling it all with playing it. The physical interaction of your body with the instrument actually express who you are. Therefore there are some musicians (composers, live musicians, orchestral, etc) that are loved for that single reason... And if you're just this cold; you can't make yourself a name (to earn more) without expressing a fullhd reflection of an idea that connects with the audience. Usually that idea is who those musicians are, because when they express clearly how unique they are they also find their way into how common they are too; so they can "enslave" their own market niche.

Pretty neat. The mixing would be much nicer if everything below 120hz-ish was in mono, though. I'm not too sure I'd be able to hear that bass if I weren't listening on headphones, and it all sounds muddied anyway.

you remind me of kimya dawson a bit. honest and comfy and kind of familiar, but also cold and distant and maybe a little derealized. I really like your production. Lazy Afternoon is bretty nice. You seem so talented able to cross genres so easily.

Not normally the type of music I would listen to, but I can't deny the rhythm it has. It progresses nicely, could definitely hear this set to a bullet hell game or something.

I feel like I could get lost listening to this. Something I could really immerse myself in. Just turn the lights off and kind of disassociate. I can hear this set to some sort of high science fiction rpg or something.
ive been playing around with my voice for a month or two. not really doing much. ive always wanted to get into music but i never did when i was younger so trying to start now. i want to get around to producing at some point but it seems so hard, so far away.

This is a really good track man. I want to experiment with this type of sound but I can't play any instruments for soykaf lol. You have a super cool voice. Kind of getting some microphones vibes but your voice has way more bass, which I really like. The lil synth melodies n other flavor are really nice touches. Part of it is an attempt to not be pretentious. I don't want to seem like I'm taking this seriously. I hate representations of things and would prefer just to focus on the music. Track names, album covers, etc are all pointless.
However, the vibe and aesthetic is fairly city-centric. My next project especially is gonna be loaded with local references. The pictures in the album covers are either pics from my city, near it, or in someway related to it. I made Vankkkouver Shit the day after a long night of factory and dock urbex. It's just my style doggy
