Cool/fun ways to hide a secret track in an album
Delilah · 2026-07-28 20:33
I'm almost done with a digital music album and I want to hide a secret track in the album folder.
My first idea was to just take the .flac and rename the extension to .txt, but I think this might be too obvious.
>Hmm, a 96mb text file full of gibberish...what on earth could this be?
On the other hand it can't just be impossible for someone to figure out so idk if something like
>Hide a portion of the flac data in each of the other tracks' metadata, and when these are all combined into 1 file they make a new track.
Would work. I don't know if this would be impossible for someone to solve or not.
Do you guys have any ideas?

Maybe you could embed it in exif in like the album cover art image. Set it as a comment or something, its possible that'll screw with some systems and it would probably sometimes make the image slow to load but I think it would work.

A less problematic approach imo is hiding a separate download link in cover art, a song, or in the spectrogram of the song. Aphex Twin style
But I dunno, not a fan of convoluted ways of hiding things...

There is a special case of "rarjpeg", which is easier than others because if you rename the image to rar and extract it using winrar as usual, it will work automatically (no need for tricky command line to split image and archive before extraction).

Why not make a single .flac for a full album, and add .cue or smth with all timestamps except the bonus track?

I've been mulling this over and I think doing something with phase would be cool. The simplest way I can think of is:
>Mix secret song down to a single mono channel
>Duplicate it to create dual mono (pseudo-stereo)
>Flip the phase of one channel
>Voila, silent music
>Export and name it some random spooky gibberish, maybe even rename the extension too.
This could also be done with a 4-channel file that consists of a stereo mix which is duplicated and phase-inverted if I want to keep the secret song in stereo.
This can be furthered with mu-law encoding (or something like it) to further obfuscate the track, which might be overkill...but I am nevertheless tempted

Hiding it in the album cover image somehow isn't too appealing to me for some reason. It's cool but I really want something even weirder, idk

I like having an individual file for each song, just a preference

just realized I'm a retard and the mono phase flip thing wouldn't work if the user is listening in stereo which they would be in 99 cases out of 100

Tiny font on the cover art says "https://linkshortener/*****", and if you replace asterisks with first letters of track titles (or letters highlighted in special color or whatever) you get to the hidden track.

7z archive containing secret track inside the mp3 metadata (track image) sounds really cool to be honest.

concatenate two .ogg files together. Only the first will play on mpv, presumably other players as well, although you can find it by noticing all the errors.
