There was a time where I was exploring 4chan/mu/'s recommendations for Japanese electronic music, and I recall some artists from that time of exploration that I liked.

Yup. That's it from me. I hope this thread is fruitful for you OP. I just want to say as well OP, looking at the first post, I want to say that I support Capsule, Soichi Terada, and Ryuichi Sakamoto. Capsule especially, but for Terada, I only know the Ape Escape 1 OST, although I am aware that he had a career beyond that videogame.

Might help if you specify your preferred genres a bit, OP, hope I didn't sperg out here for nothing.
>Jazz
Hiromi - pretty well known worldwide, absolute GOAT fusion pianist, did some great stuff with stanley clarke and has a wonderful band of her own.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_a8Tj1P0OQ <joyful single from her latest album
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRU1o-sCnqY <hiromi 69'ing my man chick corea, i love when pianist do those death note mind battle thingies
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUUcHuy12ZQ <here's her back in her crazy ass jrpg battle music era, makes my little heart beat like crazy and feel all sorts of things.
Soil and Pimp sessions - one of my favourite jazz bands alltogether, they have a corny, flamboyant stage presence and play something they like to call "death jazz", but what it often resembles most to me is those old hardbop art blakey records, but harder, even more melodic, with some heavy latin influence. Every album is different, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse, I prefer the earlier ones. Energetic, danceable, fun.
https://youtu.be/TZYRJmWN0SQ?si=ZXLX5j4W-1WFEzyd
https://youtu.be/R97xapEwej4?si=yNsrBcmkpeGWi34H < YEAAH BROTHERR!!!!
https://youtu.be/wkMgJxfEfkk?si=cQ_yABizB8gZea79 <concept album where they cover popular songs pretending they are a carribean themed pirate radio station in the future. Absolutely joyous and silly
Tri4th - sound a lot like soil and pimp sessions, but I've never been able to get into them. Perhaps a bit too corny.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_Rh224r2_U
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sTAj5-DVUg
Toshinori kondo - Honestly transcends genre, had an absolutely unlistenable fusion band in the 80s called ima, did some incredible work with bill laswell, made a great trip hop album with dj krush, spent the rest of his career pursuing ambient textures and free jazz. Managed to go see him zone out on the trumpet live in a jazz club before he died.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHAWgcFYuIc<triphop/dub musings with laswell and bernocci.
https://youtu.be/gm8H168uzpY?si=AxId4ktPOU_PzK5m <triphop album with dj krush
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGL3rZkpN2o <crazy ass fusion/prog record. love the title track
Midori - I don't know much about the band, love their sound though. Jazz-punk. Miss gotoh cannot really sing too well. Doesn't stop her at all, she screams her lungs out. If i'm tired or in a bad mood it gives me a migrane, if i'm in the right state it invigorates me to no end. There should be more jazz-punk bands.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlAf3YVMlag <banger and miss gotoh takes off her panties near the end
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIIb4ENqVP4 <great live
betcover - haven't even had a chance to listen through their stuff, but i stumbled upon this gem recently and it's been on repeat for a while. Not really jazz, Too tired to classify it. just give it a listen. I implore.
https://youtu.be/zD94k4XX__o?si=W5f7-yNqSb1sFJ4k <love the vocal, how funky, how sensitive
Stomu Yamashta - an absolute og, beast of a drummer, involved in a bunch of different things.
https://youtu.be/CkUK26KVfD0?si=qahl0czky0IsUu6G<sounds like chicago to me, great track
Takuya Kuroda - immensely popular, good nevertheless, funky and modern.
https://youtu.be/9Td1G_LFTzQ?si=bs0qzC5hAef4HDjV <i feel like everyone had this one recommended to them at some point.
https://youtu.be/y3TKT1d4wZw?si=Ii0Z7-06jQrgdjil
Mouse on the keys - experimental, electronic, futuristic, incredible. Hard to really call it jazz, they can sound like math rock, they can sound like those early dubstep james blake tunes, they can sound like idm. They release on the same label as weatherday. Please check them out.
https://youtu.be/Ni0y4pd87WU?si=JoR3gM4hWNvtEEBA <odd time signature fusion fuarrrkery, the sort of thing this list is already full of. i enjoy.
https://youtu.be/9j5AiZS6wKo?si=JUKDXgzfbJqn_PQS <minimal, oldschool dubstep with a meandering, soulful female vocal, haven't heard this sort of sound for ages.
https://youtu.be/WUFZM_hpvjs?si=NRSv4gwQf2gB-bkG <entire album reminds me of djrum or smth, incredible modern electronic stuff
Motoi sakuraba - fkn dark souls soundtrack guy. surprisingly enough he made an incredible jazz fusion record
https://youtu.be/N6nbk--7Taw?si=zmwi7-Uo6BFVX2cu <this one. impossible for me to listen to without picturing a medieval sword fight in my head. sublimely good.
Sheena Ringo - great jazz vocalist, and also does a lot of other stuff, ranging from electronic collaborations through pop to covering creep that one time. actually, she mostly does pop. very fun.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9A2-4bTYOC8 <yeah you tell em miss apple
https://youtu.be/3LVAmMxICoA?si=WJDCgRNRcOpaQZOz <what the fuarrrk they gave her that early T-pain autotune, fuarrrkass track. grooved nevertheless.
ego wrappin' - A singer lady and a guitarist guy, often with a band. I absolutely love them, but i'm struggling to describe them in a way that doesn't repeat something i said earlier on the list. very song focused.
https://youtu.be/VgG6xtXJesM?si=4x5NCA1PY7qa2uOh
https://youtu.be/krJSzfgBxV8?si=NUOcICnQzsTEdpAG <makes me FEEL
Have to cut it off here, it's bedtime. I also have a bunch of japanese math/noise rock bands and a bunch of japanese rap, if you're interested in that sort of thing.

I'll throw in my few cents
My Dead Girlfriend
https://youtu.be/KX9jkyVaWL4?si=JpEuCP3QIAFOH7s_
Cool ass noise pop band which has a very soothing and distinct sound, this song has been my favourite recently although hades In the dead of winter is a very close second place
I have a hurt
https://youtu.be/lGknfdYIZRw?si=Rz5s4FIeFnrYG6ro
If you like The Cabs you'll definitely like this one, similar sound although I have to admit The Cabs are definitely more technical and satisfying with their guitar lines
soccer.

Awesome screamo band which is underrated as hell, love their sound and love their tracks but I'm a sucker for any screamo band

>Ambient
Hiroshi Yoshimura -- Music for Nine Post Cards; GREEN; Flora, Surround (imo the best ambient artist of all time)
sora -- Re.sort (really fascinating electronic album, to some extent the father of the botanica genre of today)
Ryoji Ikeda -- dataplex (glitch music, honestly it hurts my ears a bit, but it is very impressive nonetheless)
>Shibuya-kei
Advantage Lucy -- ファンファーレ; station (cheerful songs)
Lamp -- whole discography (relaxing/romantic songs)
Cornelius -- Fantasma; Point (incredibly hard to describe. heavy sampling x poprock x electronic elements)
>Pop
Soutaiseirion -- ハイファイ新書; Synchroniciteen (discovered this on the lainchan radio years ago, relaxing cutesy pop)
きのこ帝国 -- whole discography (my favourite, great shoegazy pop)
PAS TASTA -- GRAND POP; GOOD POP (new hyper-pop band)
