Phonk is the most annoying, bullshit and boring genre. It has no lyrics, melody or atmosphere it's only can be used some homophobic dumb "those who know" edits that primarily made by <13 year olds,i think it's some bullshit like 90s soykafty black rap that was mostly about being obsessed with money, power and bitches,no hate for rap btw.
Nobody special · 2025-08-01 04:46
This doesn't have to be its own thread imo.
I don't hate the Drift Phonk sounds but it's not something I would listen to. I's also true that the genre attracts a certain audience as you described which makes me want to stay away from it further.

>Drift phonk songs are typically short, energetic, and have thus found popularity through internet culture.

to resolve this, see attached for the first 6 minutes of <https://inv.nadeko.net/watch?v=N8H-hNeOew4> this video
>why do people like it?
i dunno, seems alright for background music
wouldn't want to listen to it without doing something else though
>those who snow homophobia blah blah
post a song so we can assess

I hate rap for this exact reason, but I didn't really hear much of that here (at least, not as much as you lead me to expect). All I really heard was "da beatz" with some barely audible words in the background.

It's a type of dumb brainrot shorts with the most unlistenable phonk song at the background.
The most of phonk is very primitive, easy made and unlistenable trash,i do understand what you mean under "good songs for background",cuz it's songs that used to be phonk like in 2022-2024.

It just is a genre that attracted a lot of amateur producers because it is fun to make and easy enough to do. There is some with lyrics, melody, atmosphere.

i kinda liked it better when phonk meant chill music with midwest hip-hop samples
it's really mostly the sigma gymbro fans that are putting me off of drift to be honest

No disrespect, I enjoy many kinds of music, but what is appealing about gorenoise? And noise in general?
For me, it doesn't have any harmonic or melodic value, but that's by definition, I guess. The rhythmic qualities are also questionable. I enjoy the various syncopated rhythms of dnb and similar genres, but this doesn't scratch that itch.
What do you find enjoyable about noise?

i like the "texture" of the noise and how expressive it can be
and what i mean by expressive is https://susanlawly.bandcamp.com/track/torture-chamber like that's straight up terrifying

I like the mp3 you posted. Very chill. As with dubstep back in the day, there's the popular genre, and the "ancestor" genre which is very different. I like some of the mainstream phonk and dubstep tracks, but they're not great by any means.

I like how abrasive it can get, there's nothing that could match it, you could point to the other harsher genres that normal people would find as noise like death metal but I find it really corny and repetitive. The way normal people see heavy metal and the more recent hard rap is the same way I see gorenoise and the other harsher noise genres, which is basically really noisy but at the same time very enjoyable. Keep in mind that I enjoy very little, but the ones that I do enjoy are meant to stay for a really long time.

Thanks, that clarifies it up a bit. The track you posted certainly feels more "listenable" to me, albeit it's still not my cup of tea. It's kind of like ambient but loud and violent.
>>14128
The abrasive quality is certainly a good way to describe it. I work in an industrial environment and often find music and rhythm in machine noise.

texture is a good way of putting it. its interesting, sort of like a soundscape. and it drowns out all the thoughts in my head

What your calling phonk isn't phonk, wheel tha phonk spaceghostpurp is the easiest example of phonk, Memphis soykaf. Not cowbell techno

It's not a serious genre. Every phonk song is satire and most of the edits you see are satire too.

you sound just like those guys who "criticize" breakcore by telling people Venetian Snares' noise is the breakcore's golden standard all while the breakcore people listen to these days is <random 1990s subgenre>
