i want to download some audios from youtube for my personal music library, but yt-dlp has stopped working. i saw a post here a few days ago where some people recommended soulseek ~ can anyone help me understand how it works and how to get it set up on linux?

If you want to use a GUI - pick Nicotine+ and register an account through the UI. If you're tech-savvy enough to use yt-dlp or a torrent client, everything else should be pretty much straightforward. Otherwise, if you want to run your Soulseek client 24/7 on a seedbox (and maybe share some files yourself) - pick slskd. It's more unstable and unoptimized, but it's the only client that can work in headless environments.

>>13768 Nicotine+, any vpn (if your ISP sends piracy C&Ds) Check your port is open properly and share everything you've got in your library. Remember to set your share up properly, don't just share your entire downloads folder or whatever unless you want people downloading your bank statements along with anything else in there. soulseek is extremely easy to use

i'll look into nicotine+ then. i mostly want to download songs that I can't buy anywhere, like certain live sessions/acoustic versions, and foreign albums that just aren't available. i don't really have much to share barring a few random mainstream albums. thanks for the help :D

Can't stress enough how comfy it is to use VPN inside a separate netns for torrents+soulseek exclusively. [qwerty@zxcvb ~]$ sudo cat /etc/systemd/system/netns-nat.service [sudo] password for qwerty: [Unit] Description=Set up NAT and IP forwarding for netns After=network.target Wants=network.target [Service] Type=oneshot ExecStart=/usr/local/sbin/netns-nat.sh RemainAfterExit=yes [Install] WantedBy=multi-user.target & [qwerty@zxcvb ~]$ cat /usr/local/sbin/netns-nat.sh #!/bin/bash MAIN_IFACE="eno1" ip netns add vps-ns ip link add veth0 type veth peer name veth1 ip link set veth1 netns vps-ns ip addr add 10.111.1.1/24 dev veth0 ip link set veth0 up ip netns exec vps-ns ip addr add 10.111.1.2/24 dev veth1 ip netns exec vps-ns ip link set veth1 up ip netns exec vps-ns ip route add default via 10.111.1.1 sysctl -w net.ipv4.ip_forward=1 iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s 10.111.1.0/24 -o "$MAIN_IFACE" -j MASQUERADE ip netns exec vps-ns wg-quick up vps-wg & [qwerty@zxcvb ~]$ cat netns-qbt.sh #!/bin/bash sudo -E ip netns exec vps-ns runuser -u qwerty -- flatpak run org.qbittorrent.qBittorrent & [qwerty@zxcvb ~]$ cat netns-nicotine.sh #!/bin/bash sudo -E ip netns exec vps-ns runuser -u qwerty -- flatpak run org.nicotine_plus.Nicotine

>>14198 You can even easier by setting these two values in the in the OpenVPN config file from your VPN provider: # Prevent system-wide routing route-nopull route-noexec Now all you need to do is attach qBittorrent and Nicotine+ (both can do this) on the tun0 interface and all the traffic is routed for torrents/slsk is routed through a VPN and everything else is still in the clear.
