Music Piracy Tools

Boris Grishenko · 2024-12-26 22:20
I don't really support music piracy, and I often buy the discographies of smaller artists I Iike, but I'm really sick of having some of my favorite artists delisted and since they're so obscure its difficult to find them elsewhere. I'm looking at self hosting something like jellyfin to move my collection away from spotify and apple music. In doing this I'll have to download tens of thousands of tracks, and so I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions for tools or services to download my collection with, or even local music players that might help me adjust. Here are a few I've found so far: >https://github.com/justin025/onthespot Multi Service gui music ripper >https://github.com/nathom/streamrip Multi Service cli music ripper >https://nicotine-plus.org/ GUI client for soulseek, a peer to peer music sharing software >https://lucida.su/ Online music downloader, works for smaller batches but is really slow for larger albums and playlists.

>Seeker For Android and (I think?) iOS. Works really good. Some things can be changed but overall a good option for mobile.

Tor+IRC? >>12746 Can IPFS be used for this purpose?

I really love http://beets.io/ for managing large collections of music files. Keeps your tags way more accurate and the plugin system lets your do WILD stuff. You'll probably want to get into private torrent trackers like Orpheus and Redacted.

>>12787 I'm not sure what you mean by IPFS but yes theoretically if I uploaded files to IPFS they would remain available as long as there are seeders. >>12797 Thanks for suggesting beets just trying it out now. I have a seedbox but I only really seed stuff from 1337x because I'm not sure how to get an invite for most of the private trackers. I recently applied to become an uploader for 1337x and got denied so I would assume the process for a private tracker would be even more difficult. I just feel bad letting my bandwidth go to waste.

>>12812 https://interviewfor.red/ https://interview.orpheus.network/faq.php this is all you need to know (either links, they are both the same material) and it is super worth it. it's gonna be hard to download things straight away but with time you won't need anything else. i prefer orpheus' community and would personally suggest it but redacted has (a little bit) more content. it's worth it to be in both eventually but you should start out with just one so you don't get overwhelmed until you know your way around things. good luck!!!

I personally use yt-dlp to download from youtube music (they are not DRM protected) for most of my stuff. Albums are simply playlists, which yt-dlp can batch-download. For things that I can't find on there or that require a login for age-restricted content, I use rutracker, great collection of FLACs if you are into that. I also buy CDs I like and rip them myself. For player I use iTunes so I can sync my iPods.
