Soundtracks that significantly impact games

Some games are so tied to their soundtracks to me that I often think of an important track from it before I even think of the game play. Subnautica is a game that really leans on ambience and environment for what makes it special and the soundtrack is so instrumental in making that experience so impactful. Doom (2016) and its reactive music that adds weight to the action. The orchestral boss themes (and impactful lack of music in certain bosses) of fromsoft games also stick in my mind. What are other games where the soundtrack is so deeply rooted into the games identity?

This lil' game would certainly still be good without it's soundtrack, but it certainly wouldn't hit so hard as it did on me. Such an underrated gem in my opinion, the OST is a mix of chiptune with EDM, which really adds to the adventurous, psychedelic, innocent, ominous, quirky, vast, nostalgic, feels to the game itself.

Hotline Miami 2, was the reason I started to like music in the first place, a good portion of my favorite artists are from there or close enough, most notably IAMTHEKIDYOUKNOWWHATITMEANS, Perturbator, Dance With The Dead, Megadrive, and El Tigr3. The game is good but with a bad soundtrack it would be a 5/10 game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZKVuOYg6DY Cuphead would work without good sound track but that would make the experience of repeating a boss after dying way less enjoyable. https://youtu.be/2clUY-OsCpY Celeste got me by it soundtrack, I wasn't enjoying the beginning of the game and when I got in the dream section I was astonished by how good the game was. https://youtu.be/1rwAvUvvQzQ Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator would have way less appeal without a proper soundtrack too, it would be boring https://youtu.be/ojnD9WtLmLc Bayonetta 2 main theme is a masterpiece, if it was a bit less enjoyable by the end of the game you would play on mute because it plays a lot, but that doesn't happen. https://youtu.be/q_hCSCgX8A8

SF2 Guile's theme is iconic to the character.

Reikon did Ruiner justice by including Zamilska tracks. Touhou just wouldn't be the same without ZUN's unique music, especially in his Music Collection. Some fans outright think ZUN made Touhou just to promote his music. No links, sorry. Look it up yourselves. >>12692 Agree with this post about Hotline Miami 2. Well picked soundtrack.

>>12682 Terry Cavanagh is one of my favorite game devs. I consider Super Hexagon to be a perfect game, soundtrack is crucial to the experience in that one

>>12681 An oldie, but Total Annihilation. Didn't think at the time that an orchestral soundtrack for a scifi RTS would mesh, but by God it does. The March Unto Death still gets stuck in my head at odd times.

Silent Hill is this in spades. Silent Hill is Akira Yamaoka and Akira Yamaoka is Silent Hill.
