Any particular reason why Lain is so closely connected to the breakcore community? Haven't seen any other music sub-genre community get this obsessed over a specific piece of media before. I managed to find one youtube video but they didn't provide much insight outside of the fact that breakcore as a music genre had existed all the way back in the 90s, it's just that recently it gotten a heavy resurgence online. Again, why Lain? Why not other sci-fi media like the matrix? Why not a video game like Yume Nikki? Why not a fairy tale like Alice in Wonderland? If you don't have answers, can you at the very least provide information on where could I learn more about the sub-genre's history?

tl:dr because of goreshit and Sewerslvt One guy in the mid to late aughts decided to splice anime samples with fairly generic breakcore sound and it took off from there. He was active on image boards, obviously, and that's where his initial fan base was build. Other people followed (Hitori Tori etc) The sound was bubbling in the internet anime weirdo underground throughout the 2010s but by the mid 2010s it was on its way out, Goreshit basically moved on to make more traditional breakcore and IDM. And then Sewerslvt happened, became incredibly popular and spawned approximately several thousand copycats making their anime polluted breakcore/atmospheric DnB. That's basically it. As to why Lain? Because of Sewerslvt's Cyberia lyr1 mostly.

Oh and one more thing. Goreshit didn't exactly invent that sound either, it was developed in Japan in the early 00s. Also, this scene has very little in common with the 90s and early 00s (1995-2005 Venetian Snares, AFX, U-ziq, Squarepusher etc) breakcore/drill and bass. I wouldn't even call it a revival personally.

>>11360 Do you have any clue as to who that person was? Maybe you know where I could find such info?

>>11359 Unironically, people rediscovered Sewerslvt because of tik tok and a lot of anime was getting the rounds after a new generation of weebs were old enough to explore anime. Evangelion and SEL are two of the go-to anime for people getting into the waters of deep anime. The rest is easy to research. Personally, I think people got into breakcore as a response to the happier styles of online EDM music. It was just natural that people would get sick upbeat optimism, so they swerved into hardcore melancholy and depression. SEL encapsulates a lot of the same anxieties we still have about technology whilst being retro enough that it comes off as novel. >>11362 He literally tells: goreshit. Although if you want to get technical, it may have been this guy named loli ripe. I advise against sharing any sources because lolicore has a very frail archival infrastructure that will just die sometimes due to exposure.

Prob an edit or something that started the wave
HELIOS · 2023-07-14 05:51
because of sewershit and tik-tok edgy minors which were interested in this anime only because "wow literally me" and other soykaf while SEL is just boring mid

>>11363 >I think people got into breakcore as a response to the happier styles of online EDM music. It was just natural that people would get sick upbeat optimism, so they swerved into hardcore melancholy and depression you're wrong and should lurk more. breakcore has never been correlated with "melancholy and depression" >>11399 >SEL is just boring mid wrong website
Cereal Killer · 2023-07-26 16:46
>>11417 >breakcore has never been correlated with "melancholy and depression" meanwhile breakcore songs be having titles like "depression is forever." "take pills and it'll all be over" this is kinda a more modern permaonline phenomenon, but even venetian snares back in the day had some stuff along those lines in the hungarian album
Wintermute · 2023-07-27 02:16
>>11433 >a few songs in the genere are about depression >it means the whole genre must be about it you're a tourist and it shows
Shogun · 2023-07-27 03:08
I dont think the tiktokers have actually watch the entire show beyond clips and meme edits.
Lain Iwakura · 2023-07-27 04:03
I'm not sure i would consider the often mentioned sewerslvt a breakcore artist. Their songs are basically a wilder and darker style of DnB or Jungle. I don't find many things common in breakcore and sewerslvt, musically. About the style: it's just basic darkish lonely aesthetic, like half of the internet. Using sad anime girl pictures for dark songs is the go-to method of the half of every style nowadays. Those being said, i really love the songs of sewerslvt and in no way any of these take away from their quality.

>>11434 >most of the songs in the genere are about depression >it means the whole genre must be about it Seems about right
Judge Fang · 2023-12-23 16:08
>why not matrix? Because the Wachowski sisters shat the bed with the two sequels about nonsensical technobabel and generic plot after I suppose Hollywood got scared after they introduced the especially now days infamous concept of the "inform" and a variation on the theme of They Live. Even Animatrix is a much better complimentary watch to the first movie. I guess that's just too diluted of a base to center anything around besides maybe some russian warez site. >yume nikki There is actually a small board themed after it. I just keep forgetting the url. >alice in wonderland Much of the related media at least in some way includes or at least mentions concepts like down the rabbit hole. SEL explicitly calls a character Cheshire. I suppose you get lots of the aesthetics of it from other media while the source doesn't have much of a cult following by itself. But I'm sure there's plenty of niche and older web sites/spaces that went with that. >why Lain Part is I suppose just happenstance. If you landed on a board dedicated to Digimon instead you'd probably had asked why that and why is there so many furries? Same with Lain, EDM, CS and narcotics. But also because it delves in some interesting themes about consciousness and gnosticism but also has a cute autist waifu. That I believe is basically it. Also the dude who made the soundtrack still pushes releases to his bandcamp. >>11399 >SEL is mid What else can you recommend? Code Lyoko?
Void · 2023-12-23 20:47
>laincore give me your entire list of Laincore and I'll listen to it. I've got nothing better to do
John Doe · 2023-12-24 01:08
breakcore was always big in japan, anime was big in the breakcore community, and the ost has some nice drillnbass / jungle sounds too
Sipho Nkosi · 2023-12-24 01:54
>>11417 >breakcore has never been correlated with "melancholy and depression" Oh fuarrrk off asshole. We both know I didn't say that but you just have to be an elitist asshat since it's the only that matters in this god forsaken website. Of course that old soykaf was never like the new soykaf, but who gives a fuarrrk. goreshit and co had already made the template for sadsack edm or whatever the hell you call, I was just explaining the zeitgeist behind it. Personally, fuarrrk you in particular lainanon.

>>11846 And, another thing, I'm tired of this mindless gatekeeping of the word "breakcore". Like half the time people do it because they hate the music being associated with it and the other half is because they're pedantic. No one is up in arms to defend the tradition of a long-dead music style. Artists just happened upon "breakcore" because they needed to whitewash "lolicore" due to obvious reasons. In my opinion, I think it's closer to j-core. However, no matter what it's like kicking dead whales down a beach anyways. People are just going to keep mislabelling things until the heatdeath of the universe or until the style cannibalises itself to death. God forbid that we accept change.
Cypher · 2024-01-04 06:38
>>11844 that's not a thing that exists

>>11897 make up a list someone posted pic related in another thread and i felt that it was very Laincore
