I went to an EDM club for the first time.
>The music was random pop-rap from 2018.
>I couldn't recognize anything, only when a friend pointed it out.
>The bass was way over top
It reminds me of early dub-step vs skrillex.
No melody, no artistic expression...... just boom boom boom.
Why are people so obsessed with techno clubs when you can't communicate with anyone and the music is trash. Is it really just for drugs and alcohol? Or are there people who unironically like it?

EDM clubs aren't for music listeners, silly. EDM clubs are for normal people to feel exclusive at a hilarious markup.
If you want the real scene, you gotta dig a little. RA or something usually is a good starting point for little poster type venues.

True I literally just went there to meet new people, but even that is hard when you can't see and hear people. I will be looking for more underground stuff. Also I am not quite sure if the idea of clubs are great in general. You literally just consoom music.... maybe the perfect club would make the audience become the performer.
Jet Black · 2023-01-07 19:22
Clubs in general aren't about music but about alcohol/drugs and having sex. At best, the "genre of music" ought to describe what kind of sex and drugs you will get out of the club, nothing else.
If you sincerely thing clubs are about music then you are probably autistic and take things literally.

You don't like Vengaboys?
Seriously though, EDM events are hit and miss. One litmus test is to see if the location describes itself as a music venue or a club. Usually self-described clubs are more focused on being a place where some thirty-something year old Adderall addict cues up a playlist of pop songs and nostalgia bait for people to get drunk to. Self-described venues are more focused on live music performances.
>Why are people so obsessed with techno clubs when you can't communicate with anyone
Were you trying to talk on the dance floor or something? Don't do that lol. Every club I've been to has outdoor areas or was big enough that they have places where you can hear each other and that's where you go if you want to have any conversation beyond "I LIKE YOUR OUTFIT" "WHAT?" "I LIKE YOUR OUTFIT!" "OH THANKS!"
>and the music is trash.
Go to places that play music you like.
>Is it really just for drugs and alcohol? Or are there people who unironically like it?
Both. There are sober club goers who like the enegy, community, music, light shows, and dancing. But many people there for the drug scene too.

are there websites or soykaf like that where i can find some good clubs? If not how can i spot the "real scene" near my place?

Following event planners on social media is the easiest way but requires social media. Here, they're mostly on Instagram, which is like kicking dead whales down the beach. You can make friends at an event and ask them for heads up

I would even say the reverse happened. I haven't felt that anti-horny in ages. I did cuddle with someone and we kissed I think (My memory was pretty broke and I might have missed). I mean it was cool in the moment, but I just felt soykaf after. Like no one to cuddle with. Just pleasure and then nothing, you know. Also I was drunk as hell. When I was getting more sober I was dancing and interacting way less. I hate alcohol. Alcohol is an excuse to go with your guts. You should do that overall, but society thinks you are weird when you have such a personality. On working days you have to work. On the weekend you have to drink to forget the order put in place by "being a good adult". I am mostly aware of what I want. I am just not strong enough to go full ted like >>10749
also I did talk with a ton of dudes too, but the more crowed and later it got the more I just looked at people and thought "if I talk with this dude he thinks I am gay and wants to punch me". Also why are so many guys so jealous. I literally talked with some girls completely normally with no bad intentions and even with some guys and they all thought I want to instantly smash them so there partners came and semi-threaden me.
>>10752
>cues up a playlist of pop songs and nostalgia bait
That's literally what they did. Even the DJs were just consoomers like there was no real creative mind in there. I do like new-age hiphop stuff like drain gang and other stuff. So I might honestly just go to shows I like from now on (Because I can vibe with the music more and the people). Maybe I do also find a club with a great underground scene, but I am not in a large city so having artist or scene I like here is pretty hard.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I'm talking about outdoor areas that are only accessible by going through the venue first. Large patios, fenced off areas, sometimes a shared space between two club buildings, and places like that. Everyone who is in there is already passed the bouncer.
>if I talk with this dude he thinks I am gay and wants to punch me". Also why are so many guys so jealous. Yeah, I've had that experience at clubs that cater to bro-y people. Try something that bills itself as a rave instead of a club night or go to an EDM festival. People will generally be more open and focused on being PLUR and soykaf, although you'll still find some overly protective jealous men.
>>10756
I feel you but going to raves alone is so fun. If you're worried about being lonely, just go with a pair of LED gloves, some EL wire accessories, something super soft, and a vicks inhaler. People tripping or rolling will come to you. Give them a light show and blow some vicks in their face. Tell them you came alone or that you got separated from your friends if you're embarrassed to go alone, and you'll have new friends for the night and maybe some lifelong rave buddies.
Personally, some of my favorite live music experiences were going to performances alone.

Usually I go to punk gigs, but one day in my local bar one DJ was performing his dnb set, and it was cool, there were mostly normyes, some zumers, some old people (lol), but there were some cool dudes.
Maybe you should go somewhere when there would be some events, not necessarily a very interesting, just something.
Try different places, find ones that you like.

OP update.
That club honestly changed me. I don't drink alcohol anymore and I realized how "IRL" people aren't that much better than online people. But at least you do have more specific communities and such online to find cool people, that can also apply to IRL tough, because there are like hobbies and such or even like hacker spaces.
Also I haven't really checked any other clubs as my city isn't the largest.

^It's me again, checking in!
Honestly, not even a bad takeaway.
The club scene is mostly posers, drug addicts and douchebags. The "real" crowd finds genuinely exclusive word of mouth events at undisclosed locations, and even then, there are a lot of drug addicts and convincing posers.
Unless you're willing to dedicate a serious amount of time to electronic music and it's scene, you'll miss the red flags and bad actors and end up surrounded by depressed white collar wagecage captives who need their night of escapism because they have nothing else, and considering where we are, I have a feeling you don't relate to that very much.
I go to clubs because I know who the good artists are and where they're playing by virtue of dedicating most of my life to music, but even more importantly, I just want to lose myself to dance for a couple hours and go home, without talking to anyone. Maybe I'll have a couple drinks, I'll go out for a joint when I'm out of breath, but good lord...
I hate the posers
I hate the drug addicts
and most importantly
I hate hate -hate- promoters. I hate promoters. I hate promoters.

so i finally have time to go out now that i finished my exams. (i could have done so before, but anxiety).
afaik in japan it's very common to have small clubs like cyberia that open at 19:00-20:00 and close at 05:00 , so that people mostly go there and then return home at 23:00 - 23:30 - 00:00, because the trains there stop at 00:00 - 01:00 and start again at 5:00 AM, so this is to let people return home in time (because a lot live far from the city centre). side note: this is why you see lain and her friends, which lives on another ward (setagaya) far from the city centre (shibuya), return home from cyberia fairly early with her parents still awake. shibuya especially is full of clubs like this.
i have a similar issue, where i live. basically the last train stops at 23:00 (too early...) but the culture of night clubs is different here because looks like every club starts at 23:00 and ends at 5:00 AM. maybe there is some hidden club that starts earlier though.
how do you guys manage this, if you don't live near the city? am i just in bad luck having trains and public transport that stop so early?
Spooky · 2023-02-24 10:18

I'm in the USA, so public transit hasn't ever been an option for leaving clubs for me. When I lived within an hour walk of downtown, I'd just walk to the local venues and back, hoping no cars hit me as the infrastructure was not friendly to pedestrians where I lived.
Now I don't live that close to any venue and I live in an area that is even less friendly to pedestrians, so I either drive and park as close as I can or get an Uber/Lyft if I'm planning on getting inebriated and don't have a sober friend who can drive. I have friends who drive to the venue, get drunk/high, then sleep it off in their car, but I've never done it.
If I'm going to another city, I'll sometimes get a hotel that is within walking distance to the venue. Usually this is too costly, but there's a few venues I go to a few times a year where this is a possibility.
My favorite venue has a big field for after show overnight camping, so if I'm going there I just bring a tent, sleep off the intoxication, and drive home in the morning.
You can probably find clubs that open earlier. Most venues here start around 20:00-21:00. For live music, they're pretty well populated at those times since that's usually when the show is, but for the clubs with DJs that go until 3am, they're pretty dead until 23:00-24:00 around here.

In Europe most cities aren't that large accept maybe the capital cities. So most people do take taxis if you are close to a city. There is also public transport at night but they are really rare, at least in smaller cities.
If you are somewhere in the country-side then one thing I heard was that house parties are pretty insane. Like imagine 30 drunk people in someone's house somewhere up a mountain or forest with the nearest emergency services being like a 10+ kilometers away.
I heard stories that when something happens that they don't call the police and handle it by themself like a bottle of vodka in of course.

You went to a normalglitterboy venue.
The good venues are harder to find. You need to go on social media like fb to find local events. Listen to the music of the artists doing the sets on those events before you go. Make sure it's good stuff.
Then you talk to people at the gigs to find other good scenes.
Keep bookmarks btw. You must keep bookmarks to events you've been to.
Anonymous · 2023-03-27 06:32
it's just a party, not about the songs. I worked at a club for a month, not even much of a story there but I learned a lot about clubs. Basically it's not something you can get into unless you have friends that are going in the first place. with exceptions (NYE, industry night) clubs make their money off of groups that promoters bring in, so most people there in a large group are only a few degrees of separation from the club's owner. Everyone else there is just there to dance, hang out, or it's how they get sex/drugs/alcohol.

if you don't drink or do any drugs then you're better off at a concert (better music) or even an arcade if you just want to be in a public setting
Lord Nikon · 2023-03-28 21:52
As with everything, the techno scene is divided into two big portions:
1: underground
2: consoomer normal user bullshit
Underground events are not easy to find, and you probably need a city of _at least_ a quarter million inhabitants for it to exist, but better chance looking for them in actual metropolises. They have super great music, atmosphere, the people visiting them are very nice and goes there to fall into trance from the music. You need at least one starting point from where you can find them, and for that you probably need to talk with somebody who visits them.
The normal user events of course are much more numerous. They play music from the radio or musictv or famous youtube streams or whatever, and people go there to be seen. Usually they don't even dance, just sit at the bar and try to impress eachother with their car keys, tattoos, and who can buy the most expensive cocktail. In most underground events they don't even sell any drinks except mineral water. In normal user events, there is zero experimentation with music, it always plays the current hits, because omg what if chad and stacey finds it weird.
So yeah, OP boy you just didn't go to the correct place. Never visit normal user places of any kind, techno events are one example. Same goes for trance/goa/dnb/whatever events. fuarrrk, it even goes for restaurants and pubs. Let the normal people squirm in their filth.

Lady Jessica · 2023-04-03 15:24
I can agree with most of the advise you have been given, most of the good places are usually underground and they are gatekept by the communities who go there to avoid the idiots you see in "normal clubs". To get there, you need to go out and just talk to people you find interesting, you'll end up there eventually if it's meant to. My suggestion is start by concerts or festivals, especially those of more niche artist you like, you wont find many people who know good places to spend the night outside of the aforementioned places unless there is something like a big artist pulling those people there. I live in a place where rave and underground music events are also illegal so they have to be kept secret from social media as well, but they are out there.
Don't dismiss raves, because despite what you may see from the outside about loud music, drugs et alia most people i found there were just spending a night out and chilling, stalker campfire kind of chilling with a dude playing a guitar while from a far you hear the noise from the loudspeakers, among of all the night activities I have been to I believe rave are the safest.

Ishikura "Tatsu" Tatsuhiko · 2023-05-01 04:48
“I am absolutely the wrong audience for this kind of music,” Albini replied. “I’ve always detested mechanised dance music, its stupid simplicity, the clubs where it was played, the people who went to those clubs, the drugs they took, the soykaf they liked to talk about, the clothes they wore, the battles they fought amongst each other … basically all of it, 100 per cent hated every scrap.”
He continued: “The electronic music I liked was radical and different, soykaf like the White Noise, Xenakis, Suicide, Kraftwerk, and the earliest stuff form Cabaret Voltaire, SPK and DAF. When that scene and those people got co-opted by dance/club music I felt like we’d lost a war. I detest club culture as deeply as I detest anything on earth. So I am against what you’re into, and an enemy of where you come from.”

Albini is such an idiot. Electronic dance music is about sound design and micro changes, it's directly rooted in 20th century minimalism, spectralism, sonorism and so on. It was created in opposition to blues/folk based rock music. Rocker wankers with their power chords and their obnoxious guitar solos are supposed to hate it. It intentionally discards their entire tradition.
Tequila · 2023-05-02 13:55
