Example:
Kinoko Teikoku sounds dreamy, kinda sounds like *artist related*

I really like Yuragi. There's also :
>Tokyo Shoegazer
>Goji-sanpun
>Lemon's chair
No fully shoegaze or fully japanes, but Asobi Seksu and Boris seem to fit too.
H.R. Giger · 2022-12-27 07:16
Make it a full shoegaze thread, mate, don't be daft.

Idk i really like how they make shoegaze.
Cowboy · 2022-12-28 17:20
I was really enjoying coaltar of the deepers but the random death metal screams killed it for me.

Well, I'll post some other shoegaze anyway. Discovered https://jessica93.bandcamp.com/album/rise a few days ago, quite good.

No? Don't be stupid, this band has enough following to not have to beg on random imageboards, anyway.

Yeah I loved the rest of the album including Joy Ride. But the random screams are like the ear equivalent of stubbing my toe.

Tossing in
>溶けな名前: dreamy, heavy synth usage for a melody
>CQ: been a while, I forget, split off of 東京酒吐座
>Mass of the Fermenting Dregs: it’s more hardcore j-rock but has some shoegazy elements
XERXES · 2023-01-01 20:24
>>10689
Yeah i don't like my shoegaze with screams either.
>>10694
I'll check them out

溶けな名前 is amazing.

Listen to the Breastroke 1 and 2 from COTD, those albums have some of their best shoegaze songs on them.
>>10694
CQ is amazing. Check out What a Wonderful World's end, I think it's a much better album than the one that has Disco Crimson on it.
Cypher · 2023-02-06 15:55
Tossing in a couple more I forgot to mention with even soykaftier descriptors
>Burrrn: noisy
>SEAPOOL: rocky
>Shojoskip: dreamy. collab'd with 死んだ僕の彼女
>Yuragi: dreamy
If you don't mind Korean and are fine overlooking the production of it it's all VSTs, I highly recommend checking out Parannoul.
I don't care for these bands but you might:
>宇宙ネコ子: more dreamy/indie with shoegaze here and there
>・・・・・・・・・: poppy noise
>Looprider: noisy, fast
>>10809
>COTD
Good stuff. Preferred Breastroke 1 over 2 however.
Will check out CQ sooner or later, they're a band I wanted to revisit.

I second yuragi. Their newer work is hit-or-miss, but their "nightlife" EP is pure shoegaze bliss. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

some I listen to that no one has mentioned yet
>THE NOVEMBERS
>Cruyff In The Bedroom
>Plastic Girl In Closet
>SPOOL
japanese shoegaze is the only genre that I keep listening to despite getting bored of lsitening to the same genres pretty easily

I was gonna mention Cruyff and Plastic Girl but I wasn't amazed by either. Any specific albums from them you'd like to mention that isn't Eye Cue Rew See or Ukiyogunjou? I'm willing to give them another shot.
Going to checkout NOVEMBERS and SPOOL, the latter I do recall having written down somewhere to check out eventually.
I have an extensive list so I'll probably be posting artists not already mentioned in here occasionally.
Delilah · 2023-02-26 02:42
>>10918
Well Saudargia by Cruyff In The Bedroom pretty good but Clear Light,White Cloud carries the whole album imo. They're definitely not my fav band but they're alright. As for Plastic Girl In Closet I have only listened to eye cue rew see and a couple other songs here and there so I don't really have a whole album to recommend.
The band I've listened to most extensively is definitely mass of the fermenting dregs which isn't really shoegaze but they're very very good.

What did you dislike ? To me, Still Dreaming Still Deafening is in the same top tier as Nightlife. Adroit it but soft is a tad different, but I enjoyed it too. Have you heard the just released Here I Stand ? I'm pretty hyped up for the coming album
Arisu Mizuki · 2023-06-22 12:46
Here's some stuff that hasn't been mentioned yet:
> CQ
CQ was mentioned already but I thought I'd write a bit about what you should listen to if you want to check them out. CQ is a noisy shoegaze band. Many CQ songs could be labeled as noise rock but there are just as many songs that blur the line between noise rock and shoegaze. There are 8 CQ releases that I know of.
> Black Syrup White Heaven
> After the Black Syrup White Heaven
> Communication, Cultural, Curiosity Quotient
> From Dusk 'Till Dawn
> What a Cruel World
> What a Cruel World's End
> What a Wonderful World
> What a Wonderful World's End
To begin you should listen to Communication, Cultural, Curiosity Quotient. Disco Crimson is the first track you'll listen to, and it's probably their best song. If you listen to that album and come out wanting more CQ, then go listen to What a Wonderful World's end. Past that it doesn't matter what you listen to as the rest of CQ's discography doesn't come close to the two albums I just listed. However there are some notable songs here and there, those being:
> Waiting for the Sun on Black Syrup White Heaven
> Six Thirty-Five from After the Black Syrup White Heaven
> Living Dead from After the Black Syrup White Heaven
Unfortunately, CQ doesn't have any good songs once you listen to the stuff I've listed here, but if you're still itching for CQ then you can move onto...
> Honeydip
Honeydip is the precursor to both CQ and Tron, with Shibuya Jun being the vocalist of both. Honeydip's sound is all over the place, but overall their sound is dreamy, and while plenty of Honeydip's songs are noisy they aren't nearly as noisy as most of CQ's discography. Listen to Summer's Gone and Jesus & Mary Jane if you want to check Honeydip out.
> Coaltar of the Deepers
COTD has been mentioned multiple times in this thread, but COTD's good shoegaze songs are spread through their entire discography, so I'll list some of my favorites here.
> Receive Assimilation
> Snow
> Snow (Revenge)
> Sinking Slowly
> The end of Summer
> How Smooth
> Dear Future
> The Lightbed (Not sure if this is shoegaze but it's good anyways)
> Haru No Gyouninzaka
> Natsu No Gyouninzaka
> Aki No Gyouninzaka
> Summer Gazer '92 - One of their most interesting songs. COTD mixes shoegaze with bossa nova here and the outcome is pretty good.
Receive Assimilation and the live recording of Sinking Slowly are probably their best songs. You can find the live recording of Sinking slowly pretty easily on youtube, and if you want to buy / obtain that recording of Sinking Slowly then it's on their album live named Forever.

Upon a second look, I was too harsh on Still Dreaming Still Deafening. It grew on me quite a lot. I really like Utopia and Path of the Moonlit Night.
I remember being pretty excited for Adroit it but soft, but the singles didn't really capture me like the nightlife EP did. It came out at a point where I was feeling a bit oversaturated from shoegaze. I'm willing to give it another go, along with a first listen of Here I Stand and let you know whether my thoughts change! I'm glad to see someone so passionate over this band!

I've been listening to a lot of these artists for 10 years.
Cruyff in the Bedroom is pretty good, but could be that much closer to perfect if they dialed down the drums. They're all I can hear when I'm driving in the car.
No one has mention RAY yet

or Mikugazer

or 17 Years Old and the Berlin Wall

you've all probably heard these bands though, seeing as youtube is the main music discovery area

Dreamy and cozy, if a bit repetitive towards the end. Recently got a deluxe edition which includes the demo songs that used to be hidden beneath the depths of youtube.

Not the most discoverable band due to thair name, and not strictly shoegaze, but Slide for example sounds amazing and is one of my favorite songs in the genre.
Also not Japanese but from Hong Kong, Lucid Express. Check out their song "Ado".

I enjoyed that, especially the the lead guitar over the versus / prechorus. I'll have to give one of their albums an entire listen.
Oh, I forgot to mention this Korean shoegaze band called FOG. I had an obsession with their song Ficticious Fiction Ficticious

I saw them live not too long ago, Mass of the Fermenting Dregs is still one of my favorite bands of all time.
For those looking to get started, I recommend the ゼロコンマ、色とりどりの世界 or World is Yours albums.
