where do people download music nowadays? Soulseek has consistently been the only place i've used throughout the years, but i was wondering if there's anywhere else.

>>10833 >>10834 Being that modern day phones are being built without SD card slots (disgusting) I've been forced to convert all my songs on the computer to 128k Opus for the phone, but I have to say, Opus is an incredible format and I honestly can't tell the difference from 128k vs flac and even looking in a spectrogram it is crazy how much data it retains compared to say mp3. To answer the question, lately I just use youtube-dl or just invidious and switch to audio mode and right-click save the videos from that way, in audio-only webm format and then use mkvextract to extract the opus file from the webm. Works well altho you have to sometimes manually select the higher quality since it defaults to the lower quality sometimes, but if you manage to find stuff on those '-topic' channels it is all lossless uploads so great quality. Besides that, I already downloaded every discography by bands I like ages ago. Streaming services are the devil.

>>10820 This. >>10841 >In addition to Soulseek [...] I use Nicotine+ Doesn't Nicotine+ simply a client to access the Soulseek network ? By using N+ you're still using Soulseek. There is the network (Soulseek) and the tool to use it (SoulseekQt for Windows and Nicotine+ for Linux).

i see a lot of lains that use soulseek here, but i only ever used magnets and youtube. Although it's soykaf because i can't download good quality single tracks (most magnets and torrents are dead). can anyone tell me how soulseek works? I installed nicotine+ but i don't know if I am also required to seed stuff (that would mean i need a seedbox?)

>>10869 Sharing stuf is part of the culture anon. As it always was (yes even in the torrent community). So yes it's advised to share some music (and not a soykafty folder with 3 random songs). Depend on the users but you may be derezzed to dl from someone's folders if you're not sharing music. I usually don't ban except when the guy dl an huge amount of stuff in one row but have nothing to give to the community in return. Depending on my mood I sometimes just send them a message and see how he/she will reply and ban them or not accordingly. >share music >don't be an asshole >enjoy simple as.

I use rutracker and Soulseek pretty much exclusively. I also have a Spotify subscription that I plan to cancel sometime soon, and I use Zotify to download some songs I couldn't find on other services from there. You can use Zotify on a free account, too, but it limits the quality (I think to 160kbps).

>>11397 I remember having to use a translator for the registration process and setting my account but once you did it you just have to log in, type a search and dl. Still use a translator from time to time to read the comments or info about torrents. Rutracker is a good place for warez music (Russia have a deep and serious warez scene due to past history). But mostly I use Soulseek (Nicotine+ client on Linux) fot my music needs. I was also wondering if eDonkey is still in use, I see there is an amule package for Linux but the place may be dead (compared to Soulseek) now.
