Music distribution platforms
Arisu Mizuki · 2022-09-01 18:39
I'm interested in publishing my music and i'm (now) willing to pay for a better distributor.
I have been debating between DistroKid and Amuse.io
For what i see DistroKid distributes music to lesser platforms but is well known. On the contrary, i don't see a lot of people i follow or even seen other people with the Amuse distribution service. On the other hand, DistroKid is cheaper but, as i said, it means less platforms.
And i don't even know if Amuse is reliable to pay for.
What should i do?

isn't amuse free?
depends on how much copyright laws you're breaking, I think distrokid don't really check the music while free distributors manually verify you don't upload stolen soykaf.
I have quite a few tracks on streaming platforms but I stopped uploading there a while ago, I'd rather have my music g@tekept than having fuarrrking spotify kids starting to ruin my audience

Well, that's on your case. I'm niche sub-underground. So i'd really like an audience... But i get what you're saying.

Hi, similiar plight. I haven't done much research because im not ready for release but I have been put off distrokid after the Sewerslvt incident.
I'm not sure what the situation currently is and whether it was rectified but electronic artist Sewerslvt got locked out of their distrokid account after a number of their singles /+ albums blew up, they made a post on their gram with screenshots and realeased a youtube video, but allegedly they were unable to access their account and were continually being denied any customer support with vague responses amounting to 'lol... nothing we can do x'. They were unable to access the revenue generated from these streams.
There is more information if you google sewerslvt / distrokid, good luck and update the thread if you find anything.

Damn. I knew about that but i didn't remember it was Distrokid who did that.
What about CDBaby? Was there an incident with them?
Demeere · 2022-10-28 23:17
I'm sure I'm an idiot for asking this but why not Bandcamp?

Yeah. That really is like kicking dead whales down the beach. Any other options? My music uses samples that i have no means for clearing.
I can only publish what i have made on my own.
Inb4: soundcloud
I don't really want to pay month by month just to have my music out there. (It's a lot)

I was going to suggest YouTube but if you have problems with Bandcamp being owned by Epic then you'll have problem with YouTube.
Problem is, I've been uploading music everywhere for a couple of years now, and so far the most obscure soykaf I do only ever finds an audience on YouTube. Sounds kinda stupid since it may be the most mainstream content platform nowadays, but there's a surprising amount of people going for weird ass niche content on the platform.

if the only thing you want is upload your music on a platform that won't take it down, I'd suggest either archive.org or releasing on a netlabel.

How can i get signed to a netlabel or how is it done?
Sipho Nkosi · 2022-11-14 03:31

there's usually no signing lmao. You just find a netlabel you like/that releases music similar to yours, you send them your files and if they're okay to release them you're good to go!
