I guess Aphex is mainstream, but that doesn't stop Flim from being the best song ever made. This is a fanmade extended version, because the only problem with it is that it's too short. If it was up to me I'd have released a full LP that was just Flim. >Aphex Twin - Flim (Extended) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtGeeLhF_cI

Check out [QUARANTINE], Fierce's label. He's been running it since 2001 and he still puts out tunes on it. Kept the early style sound but with modern production values - old tunes don't really cut it anymore (in nightclubs at least), they just don't fill the space the same. >Fierce & Zero T - Inhibitor [2016] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nilGFiTqqGo >Fierce & Zero T - Going Clear [2016] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZjZsFbRYyY >Vicious Circle - Condors [2010] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuHTTdnDBh4 >Fierce & Optiv - Surface Noise [2005] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5zc_KFr9QE >dBridge & Fierce - Twilight [2005] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J46h5bxSaHM >Fierce & Fresh - Innocence [2002] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkffLzT7LsM

>>1275 Yes. I was born in 1984. With an older and younger brother. My early musical influences came heavily from my mums listening tastes. Queen, Black Sabbath, Fleetwood Mac, Bad Brains, Iggy and the Stooges. A lot of old 60s/70/80s rock and punk rock. My mum has always been into music as much as I am. So my first interests were what records and singles she'd collected over the years. One of my all time favourite albums is Jeff Wayne's War Of The Worlds, of all things. I would come home from primary school, do my homework and then go and sit in front of the stereo, pull out an album, plug in the headphones and then sit and listen to the album from front to back while looking at the vinyl album art, reading the lyrics (if there were any) or just sit and watch the world go by from the flat window. Then UK hardcore kicked off. My older brother is my half brother really, and eight years older than me. So when his musical tastes exploded and he started out on his own journey into the UK hardcore scene and UK rave, that was the sound growing up around the house. It was the sound growing up around the estate actually. Especially from the sheer numbers of pirate stations there were at the time based around most UK cities. When my brother would head out shopping, sometimes I'd tag along in the early / mid 90s and we'd always end up at the record store, flipping through all the latest released vinyl and white labels before we'd head home. It was an exciting time. The thing I liked about the music, was the gritty dark atmosphere. It really is the sound of "the concrete jungle". Especially at night. The drums too, over all over styles of electronic music. Coming from a punk / rock background that my mum instilled, I always appreciated good, fast, hard drums. And I've only ever found that reproduction in drum and bass and breakcore. Some drum and bass artists and breakcore artists take drum programming to a retarded degree, and I actually really hate that. But a well programmed and cut amen break is like nothing else in electronic music. Manchester was buzzing with the "madchester" scene in the late 80s and into the 90s. A fusion of alt-rock and acid house, focused around the Hacienda club. 808 State probably being one of the best known electronic groups to come out of that. London was pumping to the sounds of jungle, breakbeat hardcore, drum and bass. Late 90s (98 or so) I was 14/15 years old and just started to go out doing the underage drinking bit and took my first E. I'm a big guy. By 16 I was 6ft 6inches and had a beard, so getting into clubs wasn't a problem. Spent the next five years 00-05, raving and getting that all out of my system. By the time I was 21, the sound had changed and I'd gotten it all out of my system. By 23 I'd stopped going to clubs entirely. It's hard to find modern tech step that reminds me of the old days, but is new and fresh. I did however just recently order the new Brakken LP. http://brakken.techitch.com/album/defiance-lp >Wishing to remain anonymous in todays often fake and overly narcissistic scene that seems to be run more and more by people who often haven't got a clue. So called producers more concerned with image and social media numbers than the music itself. Talentless middlemen and bandwagon jumpers, unscrupulous agents that book themselves rather than the real artists they represent. The list is endless. I suspect Tech Itch is just releasing more stuff under an assumed identity and taking a poke at modern producers and labels. I respect his opinion on the scene and respect the D.I.Y ethos that he's maintained over the years. Very punk rock / pirate radio ethos.

I feel like he still lives in 90s and refuses to leave his comfort zone. Hell, he uses amen break in 3/4 of his tracks since 94. >It's hard to find modern tech step that reminds me of the old days, but is new and fresh. The scene changed a lot. Everyone follows the most popular guys because they don't want to stay in the back. The big majority of tunes nowadays are more bass than drum and a lot of them are technical exercises without a hint of meaning and lacking any sort of rhythmical interest/groove. Nowadays I stick with minimal/atmospheric offspring. It's quite nice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_lpOJRIKgE

>>1280 Reading your post made me insanely jealous of your coming to age years. I was born in '94 never had the chance to part of a club scene or vinyl scratch DJ sets in the USA. I remember hearing jungle in my youth and wanting to be a part of the scene but I had missed the boat. On top of that, clubs in the USA seen to carry a vastly different attitude than in Europe. Now that I'm approaching my mid-twenties clubs have took on a different meaning and mixing isn't something that can be bought by a label. It's as if there's a finite amount of vinyl DJ set mixes for me to discover. In the meantime I listen to DJ Screw from Texas all day, everyday.

>>1286 >Hell, he uses amen break in 3/4 of his tracks since 94. He produces drum and bass. The amen break is the entire foundation of the genre. Of course it's used a lot. >Nowadays I stick with minimal/atmospheric offspring. It's quite nice. I like that. >1287 > On top of that, clubs in the USA seen to carry a vastly different attitude than in Europe Even I was born too early to experience the "halycon" days of the rave scene in the UK if I'm honest. It was more my brothers era. Illegal outdoor raves were massive during his time. By the time I got to clubbing age in the late 90s / early 00s, they had passed the criminal justice and public order act in 1994 that killed the illegal rave scene and gave way to the birth of the "super clubs" such as Ministry Of Sound. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criminal_Justice_and_Public_Order_Act_1994 There's been a resurgence in the illegal rave scene since the financial crisis though. People can't afford a night out with expensive drinks in super clubs, paying extortionate ticket prices for overpaid DJs. The Dubstep scene was great too when it exploded. Smaller clubs and halls taken over. Sound systems installed and the focus being more on the latest dubplates and soykaf you haven't heard, than paying to go and see some big name DJ.

don't know how "mainstream" any of this is but i've been listening to this a lot Behemoth by GosT https://blood-music.bandcamp.com/album/behemoth Infinite Fields by Irreversible Mechanism https://blood-music.bandcamp.com/album/infinite-fields Transhumanism by Tommy '86 https://blood-music.bandcamp.com/album/transhumanism Automated Refrains by Dan Terminus https://blood-music.bandcamp.com/album/automated-refrains Direct Memory Access by Master Boot Record https://blood-music.bandcamp.com/album/direct-memory-access all cool electronic stuff except Infinite Fields which is more metal but still good. all these guys other albums are excellent as well, all available for free on Blood Music's bandcamp with the 'pay what you want' pricing. do with this what you will
