thanks! there are still some labels out there producing tapes, mostly industrial/powerelectronics. the "der blutharsch"-box is the whole discog of the band on tape, pretty much the crown jewels of my collection, because it's no bootleg.

hey, this is the thread for me. I've got a Sony TC-R303 deck, and I just picked up a JVC dual well deck. both playback just fine, but the Sony records with too much noise and a wobbly recording. and the JVC records with a really loud buzz so you can't even hear the music.
the other day I found a louis armstrong tape in a box marked 'free' at someone's doorstep. it sounds great and I liked it more than I thought I would since I never particularly liked Armstrong.
the comfy thing about my Sony deck is the auto reverse. it will play the A-side, then the B-side without having to touch it. and then it'll go back to the A-side again so I can put in a comfy tape and listen to it while I read in my room and it'll play continuously.
hoping to pick up a walkman from an online sale soon.

Wanted to get into cassettes too. What price region is reasonable for a working walkman?
Linda Lee · 2017-06-23 11:35
>>631
you can get a working walkman for a few dollars, but if you really want o get some good hardware, check out high-end-decks from, aiwa, sony and technics. you can get a decent one from someone who don't know what he has for about 50 bucks, the really good stuff is still up in the hundreds.
Masami Eiri · 2017-06-23 11:40
hey, >>596 here: i own this deck, wich is currently in reapair: http://www.vintagecassette.com/aiwa/xk-s7000
still very expensive but if you're lucky you can still find it in yard sales or something. i've got mine for free, fully working, because the previous owner didn't know anything about it and was about to throw it away. both, playback and record quality is insane, so if you got the chance (or cash) and are serious about collecting tapes and using them with hardware that won't rape your collection, this is a safe call.
>inb4 what is broken
one of the rubber bands gave up after 25 years and some small issue with the electronics, nothing a handy technician can't handle.
Naomi Nascimento · 2017-06-24 14:25
I had 300 or so at last count. Rock, punk, metal, hip hop, a lot of experimental and electronic stuff of all kinds, a little classical and more radical types of jazz, some really unusual music from Africa and elsewhere.
I was out of the country for three years and returned to learn that my family had disposed of them after a disaster involving a water heater. Also, the only cassette player was gone. Odd since I intentionally stored that stuff on shelves and not in boxes on the floor in case of flooding.
Now I have about three, just some demos that friends' bands gave me, and no machine to play them on.
Cypher · 2017-07-11 19:10
got the aiwa back, my rack is now complete again.
Ivan Petrov · 2017-08-29 04:22
Bumping thread.
I'm the one with the 1987 TC-R303 deck. I tried using a different amp setup for recording, and I used a fresh TDK tape my friend gave me.
no more hiss, very little noise. I am not 100% sure what the problem was, but it's fine now. Still haven't gotten my hands on a walkman yet.
Arisu Mizuki · 2017-09-06 07:05

Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.
I'm so sorry for soiling beautiful lainchan with this but I just HAD to.

no worries mate...
you would not believe how many times I have went through that entire monologue, alone, in my room, using my cassettes as a prop to point to/lean against next to the deck. I've memorized that entire scene.

My computer can still take 3.5" disks. This thread will be complete when someone posts a flexi. Magazines used to be sold with them. They are flimsy as hell so the idea was you tape it off the first time you play it because the needle would wear out the soft plastic if you played it too often. It was a way of distributing a single song pre-internet and with no additional shipping charge.
Yet Another Lainon · 2017-11-25 15:55
Nice thread, Lain. Would post some of my collection later.

I routinely listen to lp's, though I recently got my old TEAC deck running again. It's nice to finally hear some old favorites and new gems I've picked up. At this point I own around 350 lps and 100 tapes, among other nonsense. There's something about limited releases on irrelevant mediums that gets me easily.
My most recent tape purchase, along with my only flexi for extra credit
Drano · 2018-02-02 02:34
Loved tapes when I was a kid. Still have my childhood Walkman, some of the stuff I recorded off the radio and some label releases. I got back into it when I found out bandcamp was a thing. First new cassette I bought was Big American Sound from Japanese breakfast. I'm on the lookout now for a decent highfi deck.
