Noise/Noise-adjacent Music

Terzibashjian · 2017-05-22 01:43
I imagine many lainanons enjoy noise music and/or noisey/noise-inspired music. Who are your favourite artists who utilise noise in interesting ways? Maybe they push the boundaries of what we can call "music", maybe they impress with their sheer aggression or maybe they show new ways to use sound and texture in more listenable music. Posting a variety: > The Goslings - Grandeur of Hair > Noise / Shoegaze Slightly more "traditionaly" if you can call it that, it manages to create some good harmonies through the noise. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vz-2nVlD1E > I Am a Lake of Burning Orchids - Summer in My Veins Similar to the previous in a sense but with a brighter kinda sound, and screaming vocals buried in the mix. It has this sort of pseudo-melodic pulse to it. > The Gerogerigegege - Tokyo Anal Dynamite Well-known japanoise release, loud, aggressive as fuarrrk. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wE87RujMWDg And some examples of "regular" music utilising noise: > Lightning Bolt - Assassins (from Wonderful Rainbow) Heavy, fast bass guitar. Mathy and intense. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Rha2EeCSu0 > Les Rallizes Denudes - Night of the Assassins If you dont know this one, go and listen to it now, essential listening. Features on fauux. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uog1U_Kemlk

Someone told me a long time ago, the bitrate on youtube or old mp3s (like 128kbps) was so poor that it created artifacting effects with that power electronics stuff like Merzbow and you weren't getting the proper sounds. Someone responded by saying, it's supposed to be experimental so think of it as an instant new song. Bitrates have improved since. If you like that stuff, The Japanese/American Noise Treaty compilation is a pretty good introduction to the "classics". I think I prefer the stuff that is more like Bastard Noise, Walking Timebombs, Cock ESP. Stuff with a lot of distorted acoustic sounds or analog synths that are rewired. There's also Tribes:Of:Neurot which was basically Neurosis and friends doing noise along with real drumming and singing plus random traditional and classical instruments

Sonic Youth has already been cited, but there's a good bunch of other noise rock bands, such has Dinosaur Jr. (especially their early stuff), Big Black, Shellac (and most of what Albini got his hands on), Melt Banana, The Jesus Lizard, to quote a few

>>1337 >>1336 I remember trying to listen to Sebadoh in the past, but always finding it kinda bland, without any particular tone or anything remarkable (whereas Dinosaurjr felt the opposite of that)... Thinking Fellers sounds pretty good. Will give Moonshake a listen too. Also, if you say "used to have" this taste, can I ask out of curiosity what have you moved on to ?

This Heat is one of my favorites. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzZMhAM2SqU now it's mostly harsher, more experimental noise music. also i got over my bias against electronic music so i've been catching up on all the good industrial and power-electronics out there.
