What does everyone think of Ween? I'm loving "Waving my Dick in the Wind" Any suggestions for stuff similar?

The song after "Waving my Dick in the Wind" actually made me laugh aloud on public transportation this morning. Pure Guava is my favorite album of theirs. Pic related, Dean Ween's guitar. As far as similar stuff, I have no idea.

https://youtu.be/3Gg5P0W6XLY > and then she smelled it, and it was smelly! > and I said lordy lordy lord I'm comin' home As for similar, when four track recorders suddenly became popular about 20 years ago, there were a million cassettes around made by dudes in their bedrooms. Half of them wanted to be Beck and half of them wanted to be Ween. Most of it wasn't memorable in the slightest which is why I'm drawing a blank... Meanwhile try early Butthole Surfers and Flaming Lips at their weirdest. Also King Missile.... and anything from the Trance Syndicate record label.

Hey OP. Just posting to thank you for introducing me to this band. I can't believe I haven't heard this before. Such a beautiful album. I can't stop listening to it and Chocolate & Cheese.

>>406 Wait until you get to the country album where they hired real Nashville studio musicians. It's a real country record but with Ween lyrics. I was hitch hiking once and the driver had on pop country radio, then out of nowhere asked me "do you like Ween? My daughter made this tape for me". He put it on and started singing along and laughing out loud. It was great.

I am in love with Ween, one of my all time favourite bands. If anyone wants to get into them, highly recommend checking out Quebec or White Pepper first, those are two more accessible albums. From there maybe try Chocolate and Cheese or Pure Guava for the more surreal and comedic stuff. If you want the full brown sound, listen to GodWeenSatan and The Pod. Their live albums are really great too. >>348 As for similar artists, maybe try Nuclear Bubble Wrap, or Frank Zappa e.g. Shiek Yerbouti or Joe's Garage.

They're one of my absolute favorites. The Argus brings tears to my eyes. Quebec is my favorite. Gener's song writing is absolutely perfect on this album. I almost got to see them in Bend, but didn't end up going a couple months back. I'm very sad that I didn't go, they played The Mollusk in its entirety for the only time ever, it was a great show. An unofficial live album was even released. At least I have that, it's pretty damn good. >>606 Maybe I have a weird perspective when it comes to Quebec, but I would recommend listening to it last. I'm having a hard time articulating how I see this album, but I'd recommend only listening to it after becoming familiar with the rest of their works. Also, The Mollusk is the best starting place, I think. It's weird, charming, childish, yet very accessible at the same time. It's a great middle ground between weird and accessible. When I got into them I went Mollusk->The Pod->Pure Guava->La cucaracha->So forth.

Start with The Mollusk. Next, listen to GodWeenSatan. If you like The Mollusk better: -Chocolate and Cheese -White Pepper If you like GodWeenSatan better: -Pure Guava -The Pod At this point, (if you aren't burnt out) just start pulling from the rest of their discography. Then listen to Quebec. (>>945) I don't know why, but I strongly agree with you on this point. >>1139 I get where you're coming from if you don't like the sense of humor. I just appreciate how light hearted and unpretentious it is. They aren't trying to be musical geniuses... it's just a couple of guys from New Hope PA sharing a laugh with you. Honestly it's a bit of fresh air these days, what with all the ironic deconstructions of pop music floating around (a lot of which I enjoy). Ween kind of does this same deconstruction, but from a perspective of earnest appreciation rather than satire. As an aside, I did acid in New Hope a few times in college. That experience somehow made the joke even funnier.
