any nice lofi hip hop torrent? love the youtube stations going around and need an archive goes great with rain sounds in background (Next time, research more and open with a post, that elaborates more.)

>>721 Not him but I'll elaborate: the name, first off. Doesn't make any sense at all. It's neither Low Fidelity nor hip hop, it's just misleading. Now the content, basically, once you've heard one song you've heard them all. There's a tradeoff you make when you make such inoffensive, formulatic, ripoff-Nujabes music: yeah, it's popular, but at the same time, it's boring to actually listen to. I personally hate the fact that a type of music can be summed up as "study music." Like, when you see people call classical music "study music," which implies it deserves no more attention than a fan in the background, it's insulting to the artist. For that reason, I don't understand "lo-fi hiphop" artists. They know they're going to make songs that aren't even for listening to, just for background music. God, I really hate it. The same snare loops (, the same piano notes (literally, I'm pretty sure NO lo-fi producer creates their own piano sample) over and over again. It's like someone listening to a snippet of a Nujabes song and decided "yeah i can do that." Which, you probably can. But what's the point? It all fades into the background while some dweeb comments about how it calms his anxiety while studying for the big 10th grade history test. Just listen to the original. J Dilla, Nujabes, Tsutchie... or listen to something better like Boards of Canada. Maybe you'll put it in the background, but it's a hell of a lot more stimulating than anything you'll find under the "lo-fi hiphop" label.

>>752 Lo-fi hiphop is just hiphop on fuzzy tracks or vinyl rips. Nujabes tracks are often lofi downtempos that hip-hop artists use which adds up to lofi hiphop. In think you are being a hypocrite when you say it is insulting to call the classical genre study music and then say that a genre of music is not even for listening to. Pook has some real "lo-fi" hiphop with heavy vinyl pop and hiss. One of my favorites is Late Nite from the album "bsd.u".

>>754 Don't see how I'm being hypocritical. Baroque/Classical music is something to be enjoyed, there's a reason it's played in grand concert halls. You can still enjoy it at home, though, and I mean enjoy as in actively listen to it and not just have it as background music. Lo-fi hiphop is just Muzak. When you can only describe something as "chill" and "soothing," I just lose all interest. It says to me that there is very little composition at all. These genres like lo-fi hip hop, I look at them and see that they effectively gut other songs/genres and take little, easily digestible snippets paired with some other ~aesthetic~ to make the whole thing as inoffensive as possible. Doubly so when that aesthetic is something that I also like, which is anime, and soykafty 5-frame gifs are the thing nabbed from it. Then you get people going "I dont really like anime but this is so chill and soykaf, i smoke weed to this xd" It's Muzak. It's like a perfectly engineered product that has wide mainstream appeal due to the simplicity of it. It's basically pop music for people who smoke a lot of weed and soykaf.

>>755 Baroque and classical are periods of music. Loud orchestral music that moved peoples emotions between joy and sorrow was composed along side softly repeating wind/string pieces. There are "chill" and "soothing" classical works, do you consider them derived and lacking composition? The words you use to describe one genre can easily be used against the other. I would guess the only reason you think classical is good if you got a big torrent with the music that history brought forward. You are not considering all the garbage tunes of period. And similarly there are deeply composed chillhop beats that will move you, they are hidden among all that "musak" that soundcloud is deleting.

>>221 A lot of tracks played in those stations is from Bandcamp, and a handful of those artists sell the tapes (digital) for cheap, or free-- but that is only some. I've archived a lot of youtube albums/tracks/playlists using the Python package youtube-dl. If you don't have Python, go download that from python.org. If you're on a *nix or macOS, you have Python already. If you're installing in Windows, make sure you check the "add Python to PATH" option in the installer. Fire up a command prompt or terminal, and [b]pip install youtube-dl[\b]. If says pip not found, for Ubuntu and other Debians, [b]sudo apt install python-pip[\b], for macOS [b]sudo easy_install pip[\b]. If you get permissions errors, prepend [b]sudo[\b] to the initial pip install command. Now you should be able to run [b]youtube-dl[\b]. Now for the fun part. Find a beat-tape, for example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yvsz4-YRU0I. Take that hash string after v=, ie Yvsz4-YRU0I (this identifies the video), and run the following: [b]youtube-dl -x --audio-format mp3 Yvsz4-YRU0I[\b]. You can change the format as you wish, or omit the whole -x --audio-format bit to rip the video as a webm.

>>819 Weird coincidence, I just recently started using youtube-dl to do something similar. Threw together a short script to make the process easier, should work if you have youtube-dl installed. Lets you make a list of youtube links in a text file for it to download all at once. Default format is mp3 @ 320kbs, which may be overkill for some (or all) videos. # Simple tool for ripping youtube videos import os os.system("clear") print("Select mode: ") choice=input("1) Single file download to current directory \n"+ "2) Multiple file downloads to target directory \n"+ "*) Just post a link and hit enter to download it w/o options \n"+ "1|2: ") if choice=="1": url=input("Enter target video url (Prepend with '-x' to only save audio component)\n ie: '-x www.yoururl.com/videao/1231.html': ") if url[:2]=="-x": os.system('youtube-dl -x --audio-format "mp3" --audio-quality "320K" '+url[2:]) else: os.system("youtube-dl "+url) elif choice=="2": filepath=input("Enter target filepath (Prepend w/ '-x' to only save audio component)\n ie: '-x /folder/myList.txt': ") if filepath[:2]=="-x": os.system('youtube-dl -x --audio-format "mp3" --audio-quality "320K" -a '+filepath[2:]) else: os.system("youtube-dl -a "+filepath) else: os.system("youtube-dl "+choice)

>>964 I use an opensource program for windows called Tencoder that utilizes youtube-dl and I couldn't recommend it enough as a less intensive option. What I like to do is select to extract from the highest-quality audio-only source which is usually OPUS and then convert that to around 192k mp3 (anything over that range for youtube is a waste of space from my research on their encoding, although I'm a bit confused on how bitrates translate between formats.. but a lower-bit OPUS file is generally equivalent to a higher-bitrate MP3.) It also drops a source .ogg file which is, I think, somehow still OPUS, and lately I've just been keeping those instead since most everything I use supports it and it is a superior format in every respect.

>>967 Just wanted to post that incase anyone is looking for something a bit simpler. Cheers
Pulse · 2017-09-05 20:27
It's probably worth mentioning that there are GUIs for youtube-dl, so noobs can feel safe.

>>221 I've been slowly building up a folder of single-mp3 playlists ripped from youtube. If anyone knows a good content hosting site I'd be willing to upload, although it isn't much at the moment. >>755 I'll admit, I found the whole "smoke weed and lofi" culture pretty offputting when I first realized that it existed, since I'd been listening to music in the genre(?) for a while before discovering that side of it. For me, I found lofi as an organic branching-off from electronic music (torn hawk / blank banshee / etc) -> vaporwave -> future funk (supersex420) -> lofi hip-hop. Personally I'd disagree with your claim of "basically pop music for people who smoke a lot of weed and soykaf", I'd say that just like any other genre that attracts enough attention, lofi has artists and songs that are good and genuinely interesting to listen to and explore, and others that are absolute soykaf. But that's just my two cents. Nujabes is great too.
Dozer · 2017-09-08 04:58
>>981 you could make a Mega archive just zip the folder and upload to Mega and post the link here

>>221 i'd strongly recommend you look for artists and albums, not for tracks and playlists. this way, you would be able to broaden your spectrum, and discern between which styles and subgenres of this music you enjoy more. all day "lofi hiphop" will eventually bore you. as mostly everyone mentioned, Nujabes "metaphorical music" is an excellent starting point. for something darker, try onyx - "last dayz" mobb deep - "the infamous" pic not related. but listening to zappa never hurts
