Anybody here compose, arrange, jam or just play?
I play, or played a lot more than currently, now I compose and study theory mostly. Here is a piece that seems finished, written more for the music's sake than playability.

Do you have any resources for music theory?
Fred Nurk · 2017-05-03 01:48
I compose piano and guitar music on an amateur level. I only really play for girlfriends or for fun. I dream of someday recording an album (I have enough songs) but I don't sing for soykaf and don't have enough time/dedication.

My recommendation is to hear songs your enjoy, find their chords via google, and try your hardest to play those chords on a guitar or piano. Theory is something that you can pick up along the way by asking questions like "What sort of beat is this?" and "Is there a way to describe a chord progression in an arbitrary key?".

Rick Beato has a really informative youtube channel, there's also 12tone. The former has 2-3 videos summarizing absolute necessities for a functioning musician; the latter has more less music theory nerd approach. Reddit's musictheory has some online resources, can't say I'm a fan though.
Books there are many, currently reading 20th. century harmony. Fux's counterpoint, if you wanna do voices oldschool, there's also newer textbooks on cp. I studied jazz and chords from everywhere, but there are countless resources for chords. Wikipedia has a decent amount of info, as well.

i usually just end up sitting on the floor and improvising on guitar or piano for a few hours. it's one of the most relaxing things to me. i don't record a lot but when i do, it's usually stream-of-consciousness as well. it feels a lot more personal than having anything pre-arranged in your head. https://soundcloud.com/2930a3848/yrsody-sieht-sterne

I'm getting into music composition. I've half-assed guitar and quarter-assed keyboards for years. I think it'll be the challenge I need to finally stop sucking at music. Wish me luck, friend-os!

Trying to compose from stuff I make in VSTs, without much success though. Probably because I can't make a good enough sound yet, and still can't grasp even basic music theory.

i graduated in electroacoustic music production. i spent years studying theory, recording/mixing, vst mangling, and synthesizers.
i found out that the best tool to have is the basic theory. time signature and bar division, harmony, chord progressions, and composition techniques. with that, you can go wherever you want. all instruments become easy. and these things bring insight into other art forms, like filmmaking and graphic design.
pic related: music thats more fun to play than to listen. and its freaking cool to listen.

I have a solo IDM thing. And I'm in a band

reviving this dead thread to wage slave myself
I have been working on this album for a few months, give it a listen if you want https://n0thanky0u.bandcamp.com/album/n0thanky0u
I would say it's got elements of cyberpunk whatever that means

Even though this thread is kind of dead, I'm still gonna post. I've been playing guitar for 3 or 4 years, but it's more of a bonfire playing than regular music. I've also started playing drums like two months ago, and I think I might have found my instrument, because I absolutely love it. Never composed anything though, I'm just not creative enough and/or don't have the knowledge to do so.

Mainly I play some guitar solo jams over synths rythms or guitar chords, and some noise. Please check and give me some feedback!
