I'm 33. London pirate radio is what I was raised on. Breakbeat hardcore, jungle, drum and bass, 2 step garage (which got a bit wanky and wide boy with the R&B angle that eventually saw it fall off the map), dark garage which eventually morphed into dubstep and grime.

The main guys I would listen to were Skream, Rusko, and Caspa. This was around 2010ish so they're stuff was a few years old. However I got into it because around my parts ecstasy was getting popular and as a result so was different kinds of electronic music.
I enjoyed those times. I remember the first time I felt high off of mdma was to the Kaskade remix of I Remember by Deadmau5. When the bass dropped is when the roll started.

What genre? This was my post in the drum and bass thread:
https://www.lainchan.org/music/res/898.html#1130
Covers drum and bass, but there's a few old hardcore tracks and the like thrown in.
Sia - Little Man (Exemen Remix) - Yes, it's that Sia.

Ghost - The Club.

2000 - 2001, real early examples of the dub influence making it's way into 2-step garage. This is where the morph started to happen. It was refreshing after a couple of years in the late 90s of R&B influenced made for the charts wankery.
Horsepower Productions - Gorgon Sound. (2000)

Dub War - Murderous Style (2001)

If you compare the above to what was on mainstream radio and being put together on compilation CDs by the likes of Ministry Of Sound at the time, there's a lot of difference.

Also, Ayia Napa was to drum and bass / jungle and garage, what Ibiza is to most other electronic genres. I went on a lads holiday there when I was 18 in 2002. Pasty white Irish fella, went for a week to Ayia Napa and still managed to come back as pasty white as I was when I left. Spent every evening to morning in clubs and all day sleeping. Don't remember much of it. LOL.
Pirate Radio.
Deja Vu FM was a house / hip hop and Garage station.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYBnN-iZ1Ow
Shine was drum and bass / house and garage.

Kool FM is jungle / drum and bass. - Still operates online.

Rinse FM is jungle / garage / dubstep / drum and bass. EVERYTHING. Hugely influential station. Operated as pirate station until it got a community license, also broadcasts online.

If you want to listen to mixes, I suggest Rinse FMs back catalog from DJs like Youngsta, Plastician, et al. Youngsta pushed the genre hard back in the early days on Rinse and is still one of the best DJs for the genre.
