lipu pu (jan Sonja's official toki pona book) is the best resource. It's a quick read and available in multiple languages. It's a little out of date (lipu ku has the relevant updates, but a free source is here https://firaro.neocities.org/nimi_ku) but it's still the best source for really conveying what toki pona is about.
Other recommended resources are here: https://sona.pona.la/wiki/Recommended_learning_resources
Unfortunately, most of the active toki pona communities are on ilo ike such as Discord, Facebook, and Reddit. There's a mastodon instance at toki.social and a peertube instance at seka.pona.la but neither are very active.

I'd like to meet in person (literally: be next to) other toki ponists, but there are no toki ponists in my area. Where'd you talk with jan Sonja?

Do you think it’sgood for thought? My impression was that it was worse than English because you’re reducing specificity, ability to bring in loan words, and ability to describe the negative.
“ the language is designed to help users concentrate on basic things and to promote positive thinking”-Wikipedia
I do think we should try to be positive and look at solutions when describing problems, but do you think you could for instance say ‘I’m getting loss of power, we better pull over’ or ‘’it looks like it autoupdated and messed up the nvidia drivers, and that’s why it’s not working. Check it this stack exchange thread’ -two sentences which actually helped me a lot in the past month.

>but do you think you could for instance say ‘I’m getting loss of power, we better pull over’
toki pona is intended to make you aware of context, so the translation would depend on any prior conversation and the setting. If you're just driving a car saying just "wawa li lili la mi o pini" ("energy is small so we should stop") would be fine.
If you needed to be more specific, e.g. context wouldn't make it clear that the energy was the car energy as opposed to your personal energy or something else, maybe "wawa pi ilo tawa li kama lili la mi o pini" ("the moving-tool's energy is becoming small, so we should stop")
>‘’it looks like it autoupdated and messed up the nvidia drivers, and that’s why it’s not working. Check it this stack exchange thread’
a literal translation may be "ona li pakala tan ni: ilo li kama sin kepeken pali jan ala. ilo NVIDIA li pakala lon ilo sin. o lukin e lipu ni [stack exchange link]" ("it's broken because of this: the tool became new without manual work. The Nvidia tool is broken in the new tool. Look at this page [link]"
But you could get away with less when translating that in most contexts. However, toki pona is not intended to be used for technical discussions, so you're really better off sticking to a natural language if you're troubleshooting technical problems.
>Do you think it’sgood for thought?
It helps clear the noise, make you more present in the moment than English typically does, and teaches you to think about what you mean in a different way. It's good for some thoughts and I find it relaxing. But natural languages will are much more precise.
It's important to remember that the real main point of toki pona is to be a fun, cute little language, not an auxiliary language or a solution to life's problems. So, it's worse than English (and any other natural language) from a general utility perspective. But it's fun. I won't say it's "more fun" than English, either, since English can be fun. But toki pona is a different type of fun.
>because you’re reducing specificity, ability to bring in loan words
Specificity is reduced for sure, but that's what makes it good. Loan words aren't really relevant. It's not like in English where if we want a word for sprezzatura you have to borrow from Italian because no English word for it ever got popular. In toki pona, you'd just translate it by describing it like any other word.
>and ability to describe the negative.
This assumption is entirely false. There's plenty of core words related to negativity in toki pona (ike, pakala, jaki) and you can translate negative concepts the same way as positive concepts.

Especially given figurative language, you underestimate the degree to which most languages are context dependent. In English, I might say "I'm running out of gas, lets take a break" to mean that I'm tired and its time to call it a night (what does call it a night mean anyway ?). Frankly I might hear this use more often than any fundamental pull over worthy car troubles, but both happen and are generally understood.

>you underestimate the degree to which most languages are context dependent
I don't really see where you're getting that from. I never said context is irrelevant in natural languages. It's just more relevant to how you construct your speech in toki pona (or perhaps "relevant in a different way" is more precise) because of the limited vocabulary and enhanced ambiguity.
For example, if someone says, "I just read a long book." in English, in spite of the ambiguities (how long is "long" to them? Was it an e-book or print book? Was it text based or a comic? etc) we still have a more precise understanding of what they mean than we'd get from a typical translation of that sentence into toki pona, like "mi lukin e lipu suli" which may mean "I read a long book" but could also mean "I see an important notice" or thousands of other things (including most of the ambiguities found in the English phrase).
