Numerology search

This might be a bit of a long-shot, but does anyone know of a book that details a comprehensive history of modern Western/Pythagorean Numerology? I'm more interested in a history that chronicles the adoption of different ideas into the numerological canon— things like "life path," "career path," and "self-expression" numbers. I find it hard to believe that at least some things you'd find in a modern self-helpish Numerology book have a history any longer than a few decades. I also doubt that there is a solid lineage between the numerology-adjacent beliefs of the Pythagoreans and modern “Pythagorean” Numerology. Anyone know of a book or resource that lays out answers to these questions, or am I gonna have to do (yuck) real research?

>>8374 New age numerology is just a derivative of mysticism from judeochristian or old folk belief. It started because people make patterns, but it is generally pseudoscience. At some point, someone thought they saw a coincidence, or the linguistic meaning of a number had meaning. Start by learning the meaning of numbers (quantitative symbol construction or representation) in different languages. It seems like most have distinct origins and modern variations, but the evolution is poorly explained or not well defined. Always do your own research before asking for a tldr on hard subjects anyway lmao.

I don't know the answers lain, but you can learn a lot from the ESOTERICA channel on youtube. He includes bibliographies in most videos. I suspect you may find precursors of many modern numerologies in medieval magical systems and kabbalah, most forms of BS such as Golden Dawn aren't invented out of whole cloth, they are based heavily on existing BS, but everything gets murkier the farther back you go.

>>9111 >>9112 I don't believe in numerology but there are many cases in which doing nothing or doing random things is the best solution. In these cases, things like numerology can give reasons to prevent unneedful interventions (which is one of the worst diseases of modernity). For people who can't accept doing nothing, numerology can provide an illusion of doing something. And that can result in a better result. Also numerology theories are quite fun by itself.

I have been reading Manly P. Hall's book The Secret Teachings Of All Ages. >https://sacred-texts.com/eso/sta/index.htm It got me interested in Kabbalah and gematria (among other things). In a way it makes sense that each letter (and thus words and sentences) have their own "frequency". But how to learn gematria and kabbalah? I get that each letter also has a numeric value but there are many systems of gematria (English, Hebrew, Francis Bacon, ...) Which one should I learn? (and How?) >>9007 > ESOTERICA channel on youtube Second this recommendation! It's a great channel! >>9887 >>9888 I think you can use almost any method for divination but some methods are better than others. I have heard that Astrology (not the newspaper BS version), Geomancy and I Ching are one of the best methods.

>>9905 Any cipher is equally valid as another, however each one is more connected to one reality than another, for example "Kabbalah" in Hebrew gematria is equal to 137, however in other ciphers it does not seem to give much relevant information. Each cipher can show you infinite miracles, so learning a cipher has more to do with a meta-analysis of it. Events related to post-modernity surely have a more direct impact with Alphanumeric Qabbalah or with English Ordinal (if it is related to the Anglotheosophical tradition) than hebrew gematria.

>>8381 >pic These people aren't deep thinkers, they're propagandists. 10 seconds of non-emotional thought would allow a person to realize no matter what case is put forward regarding "the world", you can typically equally posit its inverse. In this case he takes emotional comfort in the sensation that nothing him is organized, everyone is a free agent, and therefore he has more ecological affordances and maneuvering room available, with less eyes on him in the case that he starts breaking the script. Because there is no script. Even though he himself is a script writer... but there is no script! He should know. Phew, the world is rudderless, what a relief. I can do as I will and the world is my own, maybe something stops me, maybe it doesn't, but I am not in a cage! I am free! The world is rudderless therefore I am free!! And it means we can improve, there is no one that isn't just like me in the way! And I believe this due to genetic temperment and early childhood factors. Blah blah blah. People are so dumb. On to your comment itself. You're handwaving based on emotional and ideological needs. Nowhere in your post did I see a proper case made for apophenia, pareidolia, frequency bias, confirmation bias, or any of the other aspects you vaguely implied. Typical religionist.

>>8374 The history is kind of irrelevant imo. Learn the gist of it and see if your reality responds. If it works, you iterate accordingly, if it doesn't you don't. No need to know that such and such thought 3 had this energy, and Crowley thought sigils worked because they create a particular energetic coherence in your unconscious mind, and there 1111 carries the energy of [...]. No, that's the wrong way. You're working backwards. Build it up for yourself, see what works, and then expand.

>>9889 Go to http://www.hermetica.info And look for each link under Yijing Studies heading. You can also get a translation of the The Book of Changes (= I Ching) for free from that site. If you want, this site has bilingual (Chinese-English) text, you can find it here: https://ctext.org/book-of-changes/yi-jing (*I don't know any Chinese) The site also has many other texts.

My number autismz thread on /a/ https://boards.4chan.org/a/thread/267570257 Pretty mild compared to my breakdowns of Evangelion, Lain, Texhnolyze, GITS, Inuyasha, Blood+, Ergo Proxy, etc in the past. I watched Naruto back in the day, but don't care enough to get back into it. I would expect it to have several occult layers that I never noticed at the time though.
