>>7521 I found it was easy to read. Finished it over a weekend.

I enjoyed it as an audiobook.

Yeah, I read it a couple months back. It's not his best work, but Ishiguro is without a doubt one of the greatest living authors. I won't spoil anything but I really like the ending even though it didn't go how I was expecting. Ishiguro's conclusions are always brilliantly constructed and this is no exception; it's not a polemic or even a commentary on the present or near future, it's just something that could is or could be told very intimately. I dunno that's the best way I can put it, I'm no writer.

>>7773 I've only read this but I've been looking to read his other book, The Buried Giant. If any lainon has read it is it good? I enjoyed the ending of this this book. I don't know the word to describe it. Melancholy?

Thank you for the thread, as it pointed me to a wonderful book. I found this to be an easy read, but that didn't detract from my enjoyment. In my mind I attribute much of the style to the narrator herself, though I haven't read any of Ishiguro's other works. I would agree with the thoughts of melancholy, and would also say that I felt loneliness and uncertainty thoughout my read. I wish I had found it with that cover instead of this one, I'm certain this is something I'll read again in the future.

>>7854 You wouldn't download a car, would you lainon?
Unknown · 2022-12-29 11:51
>>7880 Yes. I'd download a car *and* I'd poop in a policeman's hat.

>>7866 Same as you, I remember seeing this thread a few months ago and deciding to read it back then. I didn't post for some reason though. It's such a pleasant read and the ending felt "fair", not a cheap tearjerker nor irrealistic Thanks OP

>>7521 It was easy to read in that it was easy to get absorbed in. It took me seven hours from downloading to finishing, including breaks. But it wasn't shallow at all. Klara is one of the best-written robot characters I've ever read. I was never sure what was going to happen next, but everything was believable and felt satisfying. And the ending did make me cry, but I agree with >>8457's assessment of it. I'm definitely going to re-read this and highly recommend it.
