I'm eternally looking for good, well-printed, well-bound, annotated editions of English language classics and especially American literature.
I've found 2 (Wordsworth classics doesn't qualify though I like them) :
Norton critical edition
Library of America
Which one do you recommend?

Norton critical editions are very good but the pages are usually very thin. Oxford world's classics are also good editions and have thicker pages.

I found two: The Annotated Alice (in Wonderland) and the Annotated Flatland by Ian Stewart.

Eh? Are commented editions a thing? I thought you were just suppose to read the stuff other people have scribbled into the margins of books

Seconding The Annotated Alice. There's more to those two books than one might guess, including subtle references to three dimensional geometry and the use of numbers beyond base ten.

If you read an annotated version before reading through it yourself I do not consider you to be human.

Have you considered that something written in an era and country not your own might use terminology you aren't familiar with or reference long forgotten current events?
