I'm looking for large book collections I can download in bulk. Doesn't matter if it's torrents, ftp servers, or websites I can grab with `wget`. Anyone know of any good ones?

>>6269 >I'm looking for large book collections I can download in bulk I think you can mirror Library Genesis, although I haven't tried anything yet: https://lgdumps.xyz/dumps/ http://libgen.rs/dbdumps/ http://libgen.rs/repository_torrent/

>>6270 Amazing. I never realized that would be possible. Although the size is probably too big to be practical for me, but I'll take a look to see what it would take. >>6272 That's exactly the sort of thing I had in mind. I'll dig through and grab what interests me.

>>6282 libgen is an open secret among academics. One of my professors literally told me to download a book from it, he's like 70. the dumps are mostly pretty well seeded, if you have like 200 TB of space and a VPN you should make it like, a goal to finish downloading the whole repository by the end of the year.

LibGen is wasteful and poorly organized. It has many redundant files I.e. the same exact book. Some files differ, slightly. I would love to have a library that preserves all the variations of a book, in a more efficient way. For example, a book's different printings, editions, or scans, merged into one file that encodes the differences, able to generate any version.

>>6286 >LibGen is wasteful and poorly organized The creator is actually aware of that I believe. I'm recalling this from memory, but what happened was they made the libgen site. Their life got busy so they handed it to a friend. Friend fuarrrked off and never bothered updating the site, leading to issues you mentioned along with others ones, and the friend finally disappeared. Creator came back and saw what a mess the site was and tried to fix it, but they gave all control to someone who disappeared so they could do nothing. Now the creator made a new fork called libgen(dot)fun. As >>6282 mentions libgen has been getting more attention leading to more copyright strikes, the biggest one being in India right now. They might not care about academic papers, but once libgen gets known for having new york time best sellers the lawsuits will pile up. Along with that the site is stagnating in content because people download books, but people rarely scan or upload them. Along with the power split and multiple malicious mods libgen is in a precarious situation. personal vendetta, but I do hate the b-ok fork. They're the most money grubbing, pay for 5+ downloads, ask for donations, trackers, yet they keep all the profits for themselves and don't expand the library.

>>6292 is bookwarrior Sokka or someone else? I spoke to Sokka around mid-2020, he told me that it was generally accepted that getting more disk space and better labelling is easier than going through the whole damn database and removing repeats/bad scans. It was really about the manpower requirements more than anything else. >b-ok yeah they're the worst, at least gen.lib.rus.ec haven't corporatized. Also, are there good sci-hub forks that don't have Elbakyon involved? Her need to be in the public eye is annoying as hell.

b-ok.cc The best site for pdf/epub books

>>6344 That site only allows 5 downloads a day and the op is asking for bulk downloads.
Arisu Mizuki · 2021-04-09 16:52
>>6292 are there any alternative sites? libgen(dot)is has been a good resource for me to collect books and learn CS stuff without expending the money I don't have (I make 500/year on average).
