The obvious is lainzine but 4/lit/ has their own zine as well (&amp). surfaces.cx has some decent pieces but you have to sift through a lot of edgy soykaf to get to it.

I mostly buy art zines, being most of the time fanart and fanfiction based on a specific media (vidya, book, cartoon,...) or can sometime be about OCs too
Incognito · 2021-02-10 19:58
Some public libraries in Canada and the US used to have zine racks, dunno about now. All of the writers I followed either grew out of it or starting publishing books, though I do miss reading piles of zines and listening to music all day.

>>6137 I know this might have been a joke but if you can get a hold of a torrent of old Playboys the articles aren't actually bad. One of the first places Fahrenheit 451 was published was in the 1954 issues of Playboy. As for zines I've enjoyed the ones published by A24 otherwise I just read a bunch of local zines. Try local record stores or shops designed to appeal to punk/ metal heads.
Turner · 2021-09-13 02:10
You use the Internet to find information now, especially illegal information, obscure information, and illegal obscure information is so punk/metal. You cannot publish illegal information, overly disgusting information, overly sexual information in a magazine, especially now after we've left the 'Golden Age of Porn', and everyone is overly politically correct, even on places like this and in modern "Punk" groups, so why would I buy one if I were looking to be punk? It's almost like it's a consumerist identity. Magazines were only useful because we didn't have the Internet back then, and now with the Internet being so affordable, and so easy to access, who would want to go back? >>6849 >bo burnham This magazine looks like it's bullshit for dumb gay hipsters. Also reportoftheweek is boring and unfunny. His weird kid in a suit style is boring and tame, and needs to stop being seen everywhere, as he is unfunny. His style is the opposite of "Punk"..
Cypher · 2021-09-13 02:25
>>6850 also 'Kitan Club' is the best magazine ever
Anonymous · 2021-09-13 16:33
>>6850 Who said this was about being punk? Zines are good because they are easily accessible collections of interesting physical information and pictures you pour over on the soykafter. >You cannot publish illegal information, overly disgusting information, overly sexual information in a magazine Samizdat publications are (were?) great for this, at least illegal information. And nobody regulates or can regulate physical publication so you can do whatever you want. We can see that in China where the internet is heavily regulated, physical media is the only real way to spread a message out far without getting disappeared as all virtual routes are too locked down. The internet isn't invincible.

I am currently attempting to upload the complete Collapse zine (8 Volumes collected by Robin Mackay) onto the sharethread, however am being met with difficulties. They are simply a few megabytes but still seem to refuse to upload. Either way, these prove to be a beautiful addition to this sort of postcybernetic philisophical outcry that lainchan seems to represent anyhow. Here are links to the site I was able to locate all of these eight volumes. >>6850 >who would want to go back? Your view of progress and things being "outdated" is the wrong mindset. Physical content like zines are easy to pass around and distribute at a low cost. If you were to share these things on the internet, you would either be reliant on tech companies hosting your soykaf for free, or paying for a server host. And why choose just one form? Why not have both printed and physical zines? Sometimes websites go down, sometimes people don't have an internet connection, but want something to read and sometimes printed products are unavailable and they can only read online. If you want your work to reach as many people as possible, you would want to have different ways of people consuming it. The internet is not the answer to everything. Sometimes people just want to pick something up and read without any extra steps.

Texfiles.com has some decent hacker zines archived. Unfortunately, the site is down right now. >>6850 >magazines You seem confused about what a zine is. There's a difference between a magazine and a zine. Zines are usually self-published, self-printed, and self-distributed. They're a staple of the punk scene, even today, and not knowing this really just outs you as someone trying to pretend to be knowledgeable about punk culture despite never taking part in it. >You cannot publish illegal information, overly disgusting information, overly sexual information in a magazine zines in the punk scene are almost always just one person or small group of people (often working pseudonymously or anonymously) and a copy machine. There's no regulatory body that tells them what they can and can't publish. >It's almost like it's a consumerist identity. I've rarely seen a zine that wasn't either free or sold at cost.

The latest PDF is attached, though corrections have been coming in and the page above should always link to the most up-to-date version.
