I read more-or-less by repeating: comprehend first uncomprehended element, in context of all prior.
First, nothing. Then, an element. Comprehend that element.
Then, another element. Comprehend it. Compare it with the previous element.
Then, another other element. Comprehend it. Compare it with the previous element. Compare it with the previous previous element. Maybe compare it with both previous elements together.
Then, another other ... other element. Compare it to each prior element. Maybe compare it with some sets of previous elements.
Sometimes, such comparison is obviated.
