English is the vehicle through

Aristóteles Amadópulus · 2020-07-18 01:45
English is the vehicle through which Satan enters the world, prove me wrong. My mother tongue, the voice of my father and his father and so on for a minimum of 500 years. The words of my mother and hers for the same, except for one German guy in the mix. It's all I know, since I'm an American. But it's just been whored out, turned out like a prison bitch. Majority of written English now is some bullshit business communications email about prioritizing my synergies or aligning our milestones or some horseshit. Or infected by ideological nonsense like centering black narratives in a privilege-free safe space for trans-indigenous womyn. Even I'm affected by this plague. And it's disgusting. English becomes an ideological vector for the trash of the current news. Billions of people want to learn my language just to earn a quick dollar, caring nothing about the culture at all except for the latest pop bullshit. Many people can't even understand English written before the 20th century. Y si quisiera la libertad o no, nunca la lograré. All this makes me sad. I talked soykaf once about the rich bankers in New York hiring Jamaican nannies for their autistic kids. "Who will sing them all the old songs?" I said. Later I realized, I don't know the old songs either. Most of American and British culture has been eradicated in favor of muh free love and copyrighted music bands. The ones that might have cared about passing on their culture, like my parents and grandparents, were the same ones who were too oblivious to realize that it was being completely annihilated. Like, my grandpa didn't teach me fishing knots, because when he was a kid, all the kids taught each other fishing knots. We taught each other which porn sites were the best. What really gets me is muh sheen learning -- machine learning and AI. All this machine translation, all the censorship algorithms, all the sick generative AI that really wants to make you move to the mountains and start shipping boxes -- it's all in English because that's where the money is. I hope it stays there. If it doesn't, the only way real humans will be able to communicate in the future -- by communicate I mean love, hope, and be, not exchange technical data -- is going to be through obscure tribal languages that nobody's ever written down and ersatz online pidgin that the robots don't know yet.

>is going to be through obscure tribal languages that nobody's ever written down and ersatz online pidgin that the robots don't know yet. Please don't try to adopt a cultures ancient language in order to whore out and promote your pseudo-prometheus self. If anything the popular spread of tribal and ancient languages makes it easier for bots to take form. I'm not saying that you shouldn't learn a language. I'm just saying that you should have legitimate reasons for doing so, like learning more about a culture you find interesting or being able to read obscure literature. In any case a bot can easily take patterns of text and "make meaning of" and form a dictionary much like how someone solves a cryptoquip. I think a language with complex and distinct speech patterns and captcha-like text might work for a little while.

>>5011 Yeah I completely agree that any languages like that should be respected and avoided. I wouldn't want the same to happen to them that happened to English. Most people that learn English are not doing it for reading obscure literature or being part of a meaningful culture. In the same way that people who believe photography steals your soul are right (with 30 good photos you can now deepfake an HD hardcore porno of anyone), maybe they're also right about exposing their language to outsiders.

It's stuff like this that makes me consider the possibility of a civilization before our current era having existed on the Earth. The sagacity of our ancient traditions and indeed, their warnings of the present day, are far more salient to our time than theirs.

I hope Esperanto can house internet culture. Rural luddites house english-speaking culture.
