Have you ever read Charles Dickens? I've tried to read Great Expectations, and it seems to me that the language is very difficult to understand. Do you feel the same as a native speaker or not?

It's not the easiest in the world. That particular book I remember having more complex language at the beginning of the book.
The thing about a lot of novels is that after 20 pages or so you get used to the author's writing style and it gets a lot easier to read the rest of the book, especially if the language is somewhat complex or in a non native language. Just keep at it anon, you can do it.

Maybe watch the adaptation that was released last xmas first, then read, or watch and read concurrently, line by line.

it's 20th century "british" english, victorian era english (1800's), pretty outdated, it's going to take some getting used to for anyone that doesn't read victorian era stuff, even then, understanding what he's saying is gonna take a few history lessons to understand the nuances of speech at that time.

The language is from a different time. If you keep that in mind and have a dictionary near and don't mind reading on the slower side, it'll work out for you. Heck, even the stuff written in the 50s is weird, so I guess I'm saying the further back in time you go, the more effort it will take to read, due to the language differences.
Good luck lainon!

I tried to read David Copperfield in grade school and I absolutely hated it.
