Alright, second try at making this thread. The first was deleted without any reason given, so I'm just going to assume it doesn't break any site rules and was just considered made in the wrong board.
Alright. Is there any way to save and read books "borrowed" from the Internet Archive after the borrowing period has expired?

the actual file format seems to be associated with something called "adobe digital editions". it isn't actually an encrypted copy of the epub, just something that lets the ADE software download the actual file. the format is pretty widespread and there is a good amount of information available if you search it out, but i can't say what will work and what won't without trying it myself. that being said, something similar to the kindle drm removal trick with calibre should be possible.

Thanks, it looks like this is going to be more work than my usual downloads for Youtube and Scribd, which have speciality sites where I only have to battle past fake download sites, redirects and the occasional malware to get to the meat, but it's a start.

What do you use for scribd?I usually upload articles from wikipedia.Easy to find and free from copyright issues. Its a pitty they have such a system they have a lot of books not available even in private trackers.
As far as the archive goes i spent too much time trying to find a solution,in the end i just set a button in my screenshot programm and page by page i went through the entire thing. It was a small book and i absolutely had to have it.
I tried >>4498 but it doesnt work.I m on linux so i wont bother with adobe digital editions but there are a few guides online regarding acsm files like the ones you get when you borrow a book.

Books with DRM is an affront to ever real archivist I've ever spoken to.

I Google "Download from Scribd" and keep trying until I find a site that works. It only works for files under "documents", though, but that includes a lot of books.

Anyone knows when the Archive actually started having books with DRM?

So first things first, several of those aren't DRM protected and you can just download them normally.
Secondly, no. That's a pile of work and it's entirely possible that the files would still be watermarked, so here's how you can do it yourself.
download and install adobe digital editions (you don't need to create an adobe ID, the authorize without ID works fine), and calibre.
Download the latest DeDRM tools
https://github.com/apprenticeharper/DeDRM_tools/releases
and install it in calibre as per the instructions inside (preferences > plugins > load from file > DeDRM_Plugin.zip)
on the IA page choose Borrow for 14 days and then click to download encrypted pdf/epub
open the acsm file with Adobe Digital Editions which will download the drm'd epub/pdf
right click the book in ADE and select show file in explorer
drop that epub into calibre to import it which will automatically strip the DRM with the new plugin.
