Lately i became really interested in Military history, anything from the weapons used, to the organizational nature of ancient armys, the way they fought, trained, how soldiers were recruited, what they ate etc.
what are some good books i could read about the subject?

Peloponnesian war by Thucydides, he goes in detail about the phalanx

I'm not that interested in what wars happened and how they happened, I just want to know how ancient armies were built, how they operated, what weapons they used, how they occupied fortresses etc.

i'm not 4476, but i will also strongly recommend peloponnesian war for covering:
> how ancient armies were built, how they operated, what weapons they used, how they occupied fortresses etc.
in addition to the politics and economics surrounding warfare

Some texts by ancient tacticians also emphasize the importance of logistical systems and how to support armies. The concept of technical manuals for armies is not new.
