How do i become a good or interesting writer
I feel at a disadvantage because i did stufy english in college or take any writing classes. I didnt even have an english class for last two years of highschool. I didnt read any of those classics
I do spend a lot of my time reading though. At the moment i look up to orwell. I especially like his autobiographical stuff and his essays. I havent read any of his big works but im not sure i want to.
Aside from that i read hunter s thompson, harlan ellison, and am currently reading conrad's under western eyes.
Recently i find i am getting more interested in reading and writing poetry and right now wish to finish the books i have and then begin reading more poetry. Ive written some short stories and a couple sheets of poetry. I feel that i am blind and likely terrible. Ive shown a friend and he liked my writing but thats just one person.

How do you get good at anything?
Practice, practice, practice.
Anyway, start off with grammar since it's the biggest turnoff for a reader. Good grammar is essential in distinguishing a good writer from a not so good one. After that, make sure stick with what you know/feel until you gain confidence with you're writing, otherwise you'll likely get overwhelmed and stop writing. I'm in no way any sort of authority on this so take everything I've said with a pinch of salt.
Why don't you post some of your shorter works on here? Someone will give you feedback

It's pretty simple actually. Take a leaf from Shakespeare's manuscript.
How? Spam the "flowers of rhetoric":

That's the secret. Writing is formulaic.
However, imagination? That's more esoteric, and possibly requires some genetic predisposition.
