Books on Self Improvement

Otto Normalverbraucher · 2019-02-19 06:39
I am seeking books (in any format; pdf, epub, ect) that center around self improvement. >self care >building relationships >productively meditating >that kind of garbage Can anybody share such books?

>>3071 So you're also interested in getting organized and stuff? Today an article on The Guardian made me aware of this video on the 'kanban'-method. It's about limiting your work in progress to three tasks at a time and visualising this along with what's done and not yet done. – https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=347&v=ZYzRHH-fdf8 The guy's book, 'personal kanban', also is on libgen. I haven't looked into it yet, but I like the method, so I imagine that the book itself could have some merit as well. I hope this is of interest to you.

Might also want to read up on the self-care industry a bit before you dive too deep in. Just saying--it's about 10% real stuff and the other 90% is just marketing, kind of like all diets and nutritional advice.

>>3071 Non-books: If you want old-school stuff that does not force down right-wing politics down your throat (or overt religion) I can only recommend the website and assosciated media of artofmanliness.com (he also has videos, podcasts, pdf files, maybe a physical book but not 100% sure) Other than that: Marc Aurelius "Meditations" are always nice if flawed, the guy was a roman emperor and a stoic but he wrote those meditations for himself, not for publicaations. For the physical appearance related to clothing mostly I recommend the youtube channel "Gentleman's Gazette". The guy has a certain encyclopedic style to him where instead of having 20 jumpcuts per second he instead takes time and does reasearch and presents everything calm and logical. But its really more about clothing, grooming etc. than about inner self-improvement. Then there is some really, really old book about self improvement called "the improvement of the mind" by Isaac Watts. (so old you can get it free on google books

honestly the bible. don't listen to ANYONE'S opinion on it tho. just try to keep in mind an understanding of the evolution of language and patterns of early modern english and old greek and hebrew and hopefully you can understand without tricking yourself into thinking it's about an angry ghost in the sky. honestly that's most religious texts. the tao te ching, kojiki, koran, etc etc. they're super useful if you know how to read them but since everyone who teaches about them has an axe to grind it's hard to dig through the bs to find the useful knowledge.

>>3444 seconding this. Of course if you start with a crappy or very old translation and then pick a book like "numbers" to start with you will be dissapointed. Instead get a good (that is, loyal to the original text and free of doctrinal bias) translation of current english or whatever your language is, and start with the books "proverbs" "ecclesiastes" then the Evangelium. There is a lot to be learned from the style that Jesus used when teaching. Particularly when it comes to public speaking.

if want to learn how to clean only once, and then never have to again, read this. also extremely relatable to students who like to push things off until the last minute.
