I saw this idea in a post on 8chan's /cyber/, and I thought it sounded promising:
The idea was basically like SCP but with much more of a focus on cyberpunk concepts, rather than paranormal creatures. Pic related is the original post

Sounds interesting lainon, if I had any skill with creative writing I'd love to contribute
John Doe · 2018-11-28 05:00
It's certainly rife with possibilities. I don't think the whole "cyberpunk reality breach" mentioned in the pic is necessary, though. Rather, get a list of all the conspiracies that exist now and put a cyberpunk twist on them. So much technology exists today in terms of tech, biotech, physics, etc. that all anyone has to do is put a bit of cyberpunk edge to it all. It will be just on the fringe of believability and still make sense.
I knew about SCP but haven't read a whole bunch of their stuff. I thought it was mostly field reports and things like that. I didn't know they went with traditional stories as well.

So, a shared universe like Orion's Arm, but more traditionally cyberpunk than posthuman?
Terzibashjian · 2018-11-28 15:12
Sounds like it. I just looked up Orion's Arm on Wikipedia, though, and it looks like there are some hard rules to shape the universe.
There would have to be a small committee formed to determine a base set of rules and some way to change to rules by vote. Maybe something based off a couple of the classic books and no more than that in the beginning.
Then there would have to be some world-building to give people something to work with. A loose timeline from "then" to "now" along with some salient technologies and socio-political elements.
Come to think of it, I may have an old Cyberpunk roleplaying game lying around. Maybe that would be enough to start with.
Six · 2018-11-28 19:00
On the other hand, maybe having a comprehensive world document is less important than a few guidelines. Let the world build organically, so to speak.
Acid Burn · 2018-11-29 19:54
The project could coordinate on Github for an extra level of authenticity as well as making it easier to coordinate on stories.
Maybe call the project Yottalopolis. Yotta is, I think, the highest metrical number we have thus far. It also means "eight" in in something like ancient Greek or Latin, so it could represent the world split into 8 gigantic cities or nation-states
Frank Garza · 2018-12-02 05:41
Build it with a combination of fic and play-by-post RP?
When we get enough lore, start a wiki?

I think that would provide the quickest startup. You would need the following:
+ People to play
+ A few ground rules to set the world and such of the game
+ Maybe the Cyberpunk roleplaying game to start with
(printed book or digital game version)
+ Some people interested in writing short stories or
micro-stories in the universe.
+ The games and stories could feed off each other. The
stories could provide inspiration for the games and
vice-versa. The could also expand on each other,
or work independently.
+ There needs to be a space to store everything
+ Github, Wikia, or someone's donated site
+ After a few games are played and a few stories are
written, compile everything into a biannual
compilation and share it around to get more people
to join.
I can't say it would work, but that's my initial idea. What does everyone else think?

I like this direction
I have some experience programming OpenGL objects so I'd be happy to help with that stuff.

It sounds like there are some interested folks out there. Is anyone taking the lead on this? Is there any plan of implementation?

Seconding this

Also, as a general idea, I'd prefer if it could be a completely open repository of ideas rather than sharing a same universe and rules. Absolute creative freedom would be nice

I think I have a github account that I stopped using a while back. Seems like it could be repurposed for this project. I could create a github project with subfolders for short stories, long stories, rpg and art. How does that sound?
Incognito · 2018-12-19 20:59
Quick question....
I noticed the Lainchan homepage has a tidbit about getting a store up and running. Maybe a vanity publication would be worthwhile? A second Lainzine devoted to various forms of fiction? I remember a post a while back bemoaning that the current Lainzine had been developing too much poetry and fiction and not enough tech. Maybe a new zine would help things out.

Go for it!

There should at least be some sort of common denominator between it all. Having something like one single organisation between everything, like Illuminati or Lovecraft's cosmic fiction that creates an overarching atmosphere like a red thread. But elaborate your idea if you've got other arguments!
Anamika · 2019-01-28 15:02
Not for nothing, but I just set up a Github page for this idea.
Some time back I opened the account under an assumed name just to check Github out. Since I had the account, I figured I'd use it for the project.

The disposable email I used might not be working, but other than that, things may be ready to get some work done. Anyone who is interested in contributing, let me know.
