Hello, /lit/. After my last attempt of ending my own life, i ended up at ICU and now i'm going to be checked into a psychiatric clinic, to treat my drug abuse and depressive thoughts. I will bring a mp3 player with a bunch of audiobooks and music that i downloaded, dont know how long i will be there, i know i have 3~4 days to prepare before that, and i'll be able to bring an mp3 player since i wont be able to connect to internet. So i'm looking for book recommendations, books that have an audiobook adaptation/reading that i can torrent (i already have my ways of downloading audiobooks and already have a bunch books downloaded) Can you recommend me some books that have audiobook versions available? I like this place, and i think this is one of (if not the only) the best online communities currently. Ive been always a lurker, don't like to post much, but now i feel that you guys could give me some good recs for my situation. I'm looking for: - radical left-wing politics (i consider myself an anarchist) (revolution, feminism, POC fight , trans/lgbt+ fight, anti-imperialism, hyper vigilant state, drug culture etc) - philosophy/religion (absurdism, nihilism, non-dualism, determinism, anti-natalism, budism, non-christian religion (africa/asia) etc) - science (computer science, biology, neurology, anthropology, sociology, cyber-security etc)

Lowkey the sort of content you are requesting seems likely to exacerbate a tenuous mental state...

"CHAOS: Charles Manson, the CIA, and the Secret History of the Sixties" but maybe that's not the best book to listen to in a psychiatric ward https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7oZ269xU9gKCcWS8meDtrjVO_VtxPWm6 another terrible playlist for the place you're going to and then I'm between Clifford Stoll's first book, and "The Fort Bragg Cartel", if you can find any of them in audiobook format

1 (one) non-fiction book from cory doctorow, once you have read one you have read them all, but it is still interesting same with douglas rushkoff "The Crying Lot of 49" if you have never read pynchon. I assume it exists as an audiobook but I haven't checked all the seasons from the blowback podcast

I'd recommend "The Heart of the Buddha's Teachings" by Thich Nhat Hanh Thich Nhat Hanh was an peace advocate during the Vietnam war. He was a Vietnamese Zen Buddhist, and this has some of the complexities you are after. Zen's non-dualism in particular can be used to undermine good and evil, etc. Though this I believe is an advanced practice, and there's a lot of preliminaries. More than this it's probably exactly what would be helpful in your situation. "Because you have suffering in your heart you can go to the Buddha." Another wonderful lecture on feelings is here: https://buddhistuniversity.net/content/av/feelings_yuttadhammo The key point being to distinguish between wholesome and unwholesome feelings. Then to let go of the unwholesome ones, if you can. Far too often we become _attached to our suffering_ as Ajahn Brahm said. It's can be difficult to shed the feelings once they become instrumental in maintaining our delusion of self. And there's lots of other wonderful content available on this website from the Theravada tradition. Anyway been there, and best of luck.

>>12472 (me) If you wanted something a little less bleak from a left-wing perspective I'd recommend Debt: The First 5000 Years. This is a nearly solarpunk anthropology of the origins of money - and gift giving economies. This is a big book too, so it might take a while. Although I really wouldn't recommend it as much my Buddhist suggestion, due to relevance. I have another book about doing real things with real people, and acts of spontaneity etc. But I'm going to leave it off unless you really want it.
