Let's talk about Russian Literature!
Just finished C&P in the RIchard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky translation, and it was incredible, kinda mad I haven't read it earlier. Interested in all other works by Dostoevsky.
Master and Margarita was also pretty awesome(USER WAS WARNED FOR THIS POST, You should always elaborate on your opinions rather than just spilling the soykaf.)

A great book is one that burns inside you when you finish reading it, and you feel a strong need to tell someone about it. I have experienced this with Dostoevsky and Nabokov among Russian authors.

some lines just makes you burn the book and yourself with it. just leave them be.

I read about a third of Brother's Karamazov and got nothing out of it. So much religious bullshit. I found it tedious and very hard to follow. I suppose it must have gone over my head

im currently learning russian to read it in orginal. i prefer books without getting into family melodramatics, as i think family stories makes me uncomfortable to read (just like letters citing in front of an audience) and to get something out of it, it must be somewhat clear what the scope is. writing for the sake of it becomes draining, particulary if its a thick book that takes months on end.

I'm forever bummed that Bulgakov took the "see, Russian novels can be FUN too!" spot that should have gone to Ilf+Petrov.

original melodramatics without translations for the western market to suck off their soul for their own benefit and monies and fortune justifying it with cultural or other responsiblity or some trash like that

Um... ok. But did you have anything sane to say in language other than word salad?

I refuse to believe that a professional writter could be that stupid. Surely, he is pretending to be a fool to be entertaining.
Right?

It's a novel, not an essay.

Besides a short story or two from Dostoevsky, I've been reading through some of Chekov's short stories. My two favorite stories so far are Difficult People and A Dreary Story. Both speak to me on a visceral level and I empathize deeply with many of the characters and their internal struggles, which so aptly described in the stories.
I want to start reading The Golovlyov Family by Saltykov-Schedrin, but I have yet to find a scanned PDF file of a copy of the book that isn't abject dogshit quality.
