Julian May`s Many Colored Land
First book of her Saga of Pliocene Exile.
Although one could start reading at The Intervention, or Galactic Milieu Trilogy (starting at Jack the Bodiless) then continue to Exile series as they're all well connected; Any order of read through will be fun, but you`ll want to have started at Many Colored Land (it`s a bit rare, but worth it ESP. if found published as a 1 book collection w/ Golden Torc, Nonborn King, & The Adversary.)

I second Blood Music.
Specifically I recommend reading:
do androids dream of electric sheep
blindsight
blood music
back to back, in that order, for thematic reasons.

I recommend against this book. It's not very good, or interesting.

Has anyone read Asimov's 'Foundation and Earth'?
I'd like to find some other science-fiction book that has a similar feel and premise.
I don't know why, I just really liked the way they move from planet to planet, with some downtime in the ship, venturing out places they don't really know what's going to happen.
