In this thread we will be posting our bookshelves, and judging each other. Be sure to recommend books based on what you see.
Anonymous · 2015-07-03 03:26
I would but I don't have a camera. >>1538 You have some nice sci-fi, I think Asimov would fit, and Huxley mixes fiction with social studies, which you seem to like too.
Anonymous · 2015-07-03 06:52
>>1538 ayn rand? serious?
Anonymous · 2015-07-03 10:48
>>1539 two over from moby dick is a huxley, point and counter point.
Anonymous · 2015-07-04 03:20
here's my soykafty collection
Anonymous · 2015-07-04 20:12
> and judging each other. <-- I don't have a camera anyway.
Anonymous · 2015-07-05 22:13
>>1545 nice sleeper sci-fi
Anonymous · 2015-07-06 21:59
I moved recently so I can't take a photo of all my books but here are the ones I have at this place right now. Sorry for the awful quality.
Anonymous · 2015-07-08 22:20
>>1545 What's in the book of dreams! - do you post any on zzz?
Anonymous · 2015-07-10 10:04
>>1538 Off-Topic: >ADHD I know the struggle. I have ADD, and I was wondering if I should start with ritalina. Do you have any exp with it
Anonymous · 2015-07-10 10:35
>>1584 The best treatment I have found is just a proper diet, exercise, and discipline. Ritalin was ok.
Anonymous · 2015-07-10 10:44
>>1584 Even further OT, I found ADHD: A Handbook for Diagnosis and Treatment by Russell Barkley to be helpful to further understand my issues, Ritalin is great but its not magic
Anonymous · 2015-07-10 18:38
Just organised all my books and made section labels recently. Need to get a second bookcase or something, as the first is far from enough (as you can see). >>1567 That's quite a varied collection you've got there, lainon.
Anonymous · 2015-07-10 18:53
>>1588 I'm interested in a lot of things, probably too many subjects even. I had the same idea of taking more pictures that could be better quality but I dismissed the idea after all, seeing your photos changed my mind now though. Also you have a nice Pratchett collection that makes me jealous.
Anonymous · 2015-07-10 19:00
>>1588 Oops, missed out one of the photos. The rest of the Pratchetts and some more authors.
Anonymous · 2015-07-10 20:03
>>1574 I've posted some dreams on /zzz/ but none that are in the book - I want it to actually have more than 2 dreams first!
Anonymous · 2015-07-10 20:03
>>1591 shouldn't be sage
Anonymous · 2015-07-10 22:01
>>1587 >>1586 Thanks.
Anonymous · 2015-07-13 12:19
Here are most of mine. Please do not threaten to break into my house and put my books in alphabetical order. Thank you. >>1567 Lots of goodies there. I really want to read Popper and Jung, and I'd love to own a huge single volume Capital. Much love for GEB and I Am A Strange Loop too. >>1588 Very impressive collection.
Anonymous · 2015-07-13 12:47
>>1602 >Solanin brofist.
Anonymous · 2015-07-13 13:05
>>1602 here again Might as well post these too. They don't belong to me, but our house is home to a 'manga library' of library donated to a university society I'm involved in. Other than what's also on my own shelves I've only read Buddha, Chobits and Town of Evening Calm. This summer ought to be a good time to read through a bunch of these. Recommendations welcomed.
Anonymous · 2015-07-23 02:22
Little bookcase is at home, big bookcase is at a shop space I rent.
Anonymous · 2015-07-27 01:21
>>1638 you got some good stuff in there! fan of hegel?
Anonymous · 2015-07-29 20:31
>>1661 Hegel is a mindbender, but I appreciate his insights into things like self-negation.
Anonymous · 2015-08-19 04:10
>>1538 Other than the 100 page circle jerk to money at the end, is Atlas Shrugged worth reading?
Anonymous · 2015-08-19 04:30
>>1602 solid collection, especially your fiction. >>1638 very nice programming selections. needs more Lacan and Marx to support your reading of Žižek.
Anonymous · 2015-08-19 04:47
>>1798 ive tried getting through it a few times... its pretty boring and poorly written. pretty critically panned as well... im curious what use anyone finds for it (apart from using it as some free-market fable). as i said, i havent finished it, so maybe it gets good at some point...
Anonymous · 2015-08-19 08:49
The tittles are in spanish... sorry about that.
Anonymous · 2015-08-19 09:39
>>1802 >The tittles are in spanish... sorry about that. no apology needed. the Da Vinci Code on the other hand... :p
Anonymous · 2015-08-20 18:17
>>1800 That was essentially my experience with Anthem (though it was short enough that I did finish it in a day or two.) It read like the journal of a melodramatic self-centered angsty teen who might perform acts of self-harm to get attention because their geenoos wasn't recognized for its True Value.
Anonymous · 2015-08-20 19:21
>>1604 Lone wolf ad cub is a quite good read.
Anonymous · 2015-08-21 06:51
>>1811 I liked Anthem.
Anonymous · 2015-08-23 19:24
>>1799 Other than Ecrits and Kapital, what would you suggest? I'm currently looking into Peter Sloterdijk’s Spheres trilogy on Zizek's recommendation.
Anonymous · 2015-09-19 23:26

Anonymous · 2015-10-06 20:53
just starting out, don't judge too harshly. order from left to right: LIFE anthology from World War 2 Book about bombers over japan Java Textbook for college Books 1-5 of the Horus Heresy collection Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep Neuromancer Mona Lisa Overdrive Count Zero Function programming using lamba calculus
Anonymous · 2015-10-08 23:08
Movies and other things are shelved with books, so it might look a little weird. Apologies for the jittery photos. I couldn't take a clear photo if my life depended on it. I badly want a first edition hardcover of Count Zero.
Anonymous · 2015-11-01 07:18
sorry about the poor quality (only have my gopro atm) Wish I had my other books... it feels a bit empty
Anonymous · 2015-11-01 09:52
>>2335 quality over quantity lainon. what is the second book from the left, the Springer title?
Anonymous · 2015-11-01 14:37
>>2337 I'll just name all of them as the image is blury. Left to right: Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs (SICP) Discrete Mathematics Using a Computer (haskell) <- the one you asked for Developing Web Apps with Haskell and Yesod Parallel and Cocurrent Programming in Haskell Real World Haskell Assembly Language Step by Step Programming with Linux (x86) Understanding and Using C Pointers The C Programming Language K&R C Programming A Modern Approach
Anonymous · 2015-11-01 15:59
I need to read most of these
Anonymous · 2015-11-01 21:01
>>2339 >Discrete Mathematics Using a Computer (haskell) cool. might have to look into this myself.
Anonymous · 2015-11-03 04:03
Third world weeb so... yeah...
Anonymous · 2015-11-03 23:46
physical books, lol.
Anonymous · 2015-11-06 20:31
My bookshelf mostly in Russian because tis' hard finding books in English in my hometown
Anonymous · 2015-11-07 06:06
>>2351 >Azumanga Daioh, Nichijou and Yuyushiki I like you. I should get those too, though I might opt for the translated version of Azumanga judging from how unmotivated I am to learn Japanese.
Anonymous · 2015-11-07 16:06
>>2376 Try amazon, the ones they have in english and are already in your country are relatively cheap and quick. I bought all my (3) english books from amazon, 2 got delivered within 3 days. The Roadside Picnic one is a pain in the ass to find so it's stil in "amazon is requesting book" ;-;.
Anonymous · 2015-11-07 21:30
>>2386 I'd happy to do so, but you know... Russian Post (Почта России/Pochta Rossii) became legendary across Belarus/Ukraine/Russia for its stupidity, slowness and lack of assistance. My last purchase from Amazon was awful, they (Rus. Post) delivered my stuff (not books but other things) within 4 months T.T
Anonymous · 2015-11-08 17:58
>>2389 >within 4 months Holy shit, and I was thinking my imported SICP(which was actually the fuarrrking teacher's version but was called SICP in the site) was slow because it took one month to import from the US. Why is it so slow? Is it retarded-tier security or just incompetence?
Anonymous · 2015-11-09 23:05
Man, I wish I could afford collecting dead trees. They're so much nicer to read than pdfs on a computer screen.
Anonymous · 2015-11-10 06:35
I wish I could afford books. ;_; I have to pirate all my stuff.
Anonymous · 2015-11-10 10:37
>>2404 I found some classic literature on Barnes and Noble's for around $5 each, but I know what you mean getting the books you want can be expensive.
Anonymous · 2015-11-10 17:11
>>1588 You should get more Orwell books. Some of his Lesser known works, such as The Lion and the Unicorn, are amazing even though they're nonfiction.
Anonymous · 2015-11-15 23:40
>>2400 >>2404 Look for your local public library book sales. You can get some really pristine books there for super cheap. Also look around your area for a good used book store, if you find a good one, it's not something to ignore.
Anonymous · 2015-11-16 01:49
>>2446 ask around college libraries for when they are replacing books too.
