I think we need a thread for people to bring up issues with their work and get advice Bring your issues and get feedback I haven't posted pic related in years but is good advice

I want to start with this: I want to write a memoir of my life online but present it as a sci fantasy story with different websites as places and communities as factions, you get the idea. My issue now is how could the fictional world relate to the real world, like in 2012 my computer crashed and my dad helped me a lot with that. I don't want to write it like if the internet was VR the whole time but the relationship with the real world can't be left out.

>>1814 Lets see, computers can be represented as AI. Ai can be an item sold in a dystopian society. The higher the AI "level" the more you can upgrade your cybernetics (or w/e). Look at the litrpg genre. Some good concepts are presented in that relatively new genre.

>>1815 I'm aware of litrpg, I haven't read a book yet but there are some on my backlog. I'm not too excited because I'm not big on genre fiction and I've heard some of these novels are quiet bad. Still I want to avoid framing my story into the litRPG genre but i still have to read some novels on that genre to be sure

I have issues with planning out stories. Does anyone know methods to planning out a story, or be willing to share how they plan their stories? I am used to just free writing then salvaging something from there, but the results have been cringe at best. Thanks for any help.

>>1856 I can recommend Brandon Sanderson's lectures on fiction writing. He stresses a systematic approach to writing and gives strategies for all aspects of storytelling (character development, world building, as well as your main issue - plot structure). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4ZDBOc2tX8&list=PLH3mK1NZn9QqOSj3ObrP3xL8tEJQ12-vL

>>1856 Start with a small sketch, like a single paragraph summing up the story and on each sketch expand more and more.
