How many of y'all are familiar with Alt-Lit? Alt-Lit is a new movement characterized by both its form and its content. The stories & status-blurbs are presented through alternate social media personas, which can be either stable or unstable. The content is usually based on everyday, lived experience--at least, tangentially--but is often also subtly surreal or absurd. Even when, at face value, it's written poorly, it's self-aware, referential. There are usually references to internet culture, though oblique. Late Capitalism is often central in Alt-Lit narratives. Xim Xom, despite Vice's piss-poor article about the movement (which references no relevant figures--probably just ones the author is acquainted with & who have nothing to do with the movement)--is at the forefront, imo. Their writing is toptier, and is very important. I also write Alt-Lit, but for the sake of not being a self-promoting twat I won't post it here. TL;DR Alt-Lit is a small, though increasingly important staple of internet literature. Now that it's a thing, it's definitely understandable how it arose.

>>1763 I feel like anyone who likes Lain & literature would appreciate Ximmy--so, basically, everyone on this Board. All their stuff is on their Facebook page, some on the profile. Definitely recommended

Hi, I've heard that Megan Boyle has been described as alt-lit, as has Sam Pink. Here are samples of each: http://muumuuhouse.com/mb.fiction1.html http://sam-pink-pbp.blogspot.co.uk/ Would you agree?

>>1763 >I also write Alt-Lit, but for the sake of not being a self-promoting twat I won't post it here. I like supporting lainons, chummer, so want to email me what your stuff is? If I like it, I'll keep on reading it, and if I do that, then I'll probably start talking about it and soykaf, ryte chummer? Also, this way you can share your waifu's soykaf without looking like a wageslave, which is like kicking dead whales down a long, long beach. Also this >>1766

Don't quite "get" what alt-lit is exactly but seeing sites linked here >>1767 it looks like "This Rocketship Will Crash" by Miracle Jones? Is it not?

>>1766 OP here. Xim Xom is the only exemplary Alt-Lit content creator I'm aware of, nothing comes close that I've read. Will check out Boyle and Sam Pink as per >>1767 's suggestion, though I haven't read anything worthwhile by 'alt-lit' writers who use their real names/personas. Here's "Ages," a piece with accompanying video by Xim Xom: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aiUwt2BsB4 Xim Xom's Public Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/iamhere2help/

ITT: Either OP soykafposts as alternate identities and steers the thread narrative, or you lot are all the same.

OP I'd be interested in your writing if you want to email me? I didn't know it was called alt-lit but I think https://medicaldragon.neocities.org/ https://web.archive.org/web/20150508072318/http://heikojulien.popserial.net:80/ https://fluland.com/ https://suyu.neocities.org/ would all fall under that category

>>1782 The first one I wouldn't personally consider Alt-Lit (closer to hypertext sans intratextual linking). Second one definitely fits the description. I'll get to the others in a bit. Also: emailed

>>1782 When I read "mcdonalds" on that second link it suddenly reminded me of something I read a long time ago, which could very well fit OP's description of "alt-lit" [*]. It was posted on Buzzfeed of all places (the section where users can upload their own articles) and it had a similar fragmentary absurdism thing. The user had only uploaded two articles, both in a similar vein. In this one, the narrator jumped behind the counter and slid into a weird inter-McDimensional timeslip thing. I thought it was really entertaining and well-written. Ring any bells for anyone here? I spent a while searching just now and couldn't find it. * This term is so frequently used with so many different meanings, that I find OP's pedantic yes-this-is/no-that-isn't pretty amusing.
