Dumarest Saga cover artist

Maybe Lain can help answer a question I've had for years. The 70's run of E.C. Tubb's Dumarest Saga, published by Arrow, had this one really striking artist, never credited, who portrayed Earl Dumarest as this kind of sinewy Viking with a porn star moustache, wearing skimpy bits of flexible metal that would make Den blush. I have never been able to find this artist's name, does anyone recognise his style?

It's possible the artist OP is looking for is Ken Kelly Search DuckDuckGo with "Dumarest Saga Book Ken Kelly"

>>2801 Thanks, but I think Ken Kelly did some later covers, instead. He doesn't use as much obvious photo reference, uses much more dramatic lighting, and his backgrounds are often an impressionistic blur, while this guy delineates everything in razor-sharp detail. Also his male body types tend towards lithe Chuck Norris types while Kelly likes them swole AF. Kelly came in after my guy and Josh Kirby's covers, about the #20-30's of the series. Kirby was more famous for Discworld, and Kelly did a lot of Conan stuff, I haven't found anything else by this guy.

The unfortunate truth is that publication companies used to have production artists do these covers, or else would hire artists who didn't want to be associated with the pulp genre. You would need to find the artist's signature in the covers (it's usually somewhere even if the artist wants to not be recognized) and then use that to track the artist down. These covers look old. Not sure how far back they go, but there was a time when illustrating pulp books was a career embarrassment done to pay the bills.

If the publisher is still around, maybe contact them and ask. It's a long shot, but there might be records still hanging around.

>>2804 I'm still trying to work out if Arrow UK is the same as the Penguin imprint... I thought for a second it might be Fred Gambino, but he was the artist after Kirby, the one who made Dumarest sort of David Hasselhoff in denim and moon boots.

>>2805 jammit, I thought it might have been Chris Yates, but he did the collage covers for the first printings of the first books.

Wasn't there a service that sought out similar images to whatever sample was given to it? Maybe it was just searching for metadata, but maybe it would be worth checking out.

There's a site dedicated to this series. https://dumarest.com/index.html Maybe whoever is behind that site can help?

>>2813 The contact link for that site's owner is down...

Man, this artist really found a a way to erase any way to be discovered.... I'm surprised there's no signature or identifying icon on the covers. Usually that's the revealing clue.
