Hey /lit/,
Do any of you use style guides to help produce smoother creative writing?
If so, what are your favorites?
I was thinking of using Strunk & White but I'm not sure if it's too dated or too report writing focused.
Also, might any of you know of some set exercises to guide writers in practicing particular writing styles? (as a beginner)

Just a small tip, but: I heard reading aloud/having read aloud a writing helps to distinguish flaws therein.

I second the reading aloud part. It's important to write well, but people will still use an internal voice when reading. If it doesn't have a good sound, readers won't feel comfortable with it. This is especially true if you ever find yourself giving a book reading.

The Lie That Tells A Truth by John Dufresne has some useful style advice and tons of exercises.
