Did you ever just stop to think about how fuarrrking beautiful our surroundings can be? Obviously not in a city, but damn, trees and other plants are just perfect. I love walking through the forest and just focus deeply on single objects: This leaf has a perfect shape. In those moments I feel truly happy because I am part of this.

one time I took some magic shrooms and hiked to the top of a mountain. at the top of the mountain, I ate an orange as I ate, I contemplated how deeply intricate the orange was its fibers weaving together between these little sacks of sugary juice mesmerized me it was a really tasty orange

>Obviously not in a city Speak for yourself. There are different types of beauty, and while I do love the beauty of nature and which it were preserved more, I can find similar beauty in cities. Not as much on the ground in the crowd, but in spaghetic tangles of road with orange-lit tunnels beside a splash of green abandoned undergrowth atop a concrete podium. I can't get one now but I would have uploaded a picture of happy Orel.
Donna Hawthorne · 2021-02-25 22:44
>>1642 City beauty is different from plant beauty. There is more complexity in a single leaf than the entire road system of a sprawling metropolis, and usually it's better organized too.

>>1643 There's plenty of leaves to look at in any city. And rural areas are just as much part of civilization as the city, with roads and cell towers and fences and agriculture.
Nobody important · 2021-02-26 07:55
>>1642 >>1644 Who's talking about rural areas? Cities are ugly as opposed to forests. That's a fact and if you disagree your human mind that is made for a natural habitat has been brainwashed into believing concrete is a good material to live in. Of course there are also trees in the city at least today, not sure how that will be in a century but you can't compare them to trees in a forest. Trees are in fact highly social and only work properly in a big network of fellow trees.
Nobody special · 2021-02-26 20:51
>>1646 OH MY GOD WE ARE THE SHEEPLE WHO HAS BEEN BRAINWASHED. THANK YOU FOR SAVING ME There is a forest, a real forest, 100 feet from my front door. It's about 3000 acres I think? I've done three day solo hikes in other places and I've lived outdoors for 3-4 months at a time more than once. I've spent more time in the woods than you have.
Bob Arctor · 2021-02-26 20:55
i use to be really ill, pains all over my body, but i'd walk across the street to the woods and river. it was a very short walk so I could manage. when I was in there everything felt magical and I didn't feel as much pain.

J.C. Denton · 2021-02-26 21:33
>>1651 It would turn the thread into a blog. I have a tent, and other times I didn't even have that. I also lived in a treehouse my friends found one summer. It wasn't a kids' treehouse either, it was an actual shelter and quite well hidden (for a while, until university security found it). I know it's shocking to you but some of us did something with our lives other than play video games and watch anime before coming here. Hell, I'm outside right now. I have to be, there's no internet at my house and hasn't been since I moved there.
Terzibashjian · 2021-02-27 03:03
>>1644 >There's plenty of leaves to look at in any city. Not nearly as many. Anyway, my point isn't that you maximize your quantity of leaves by being in nature. The point is that the systems of natural order are more complicated than artificial ones. but you must admit that cities and forests have very different kinds of nature, very different kinds of beauty. >And rural areas are just as much part of civilization as the city, with roads and cell towers and fences and agriculture. Who said different? >>1649 ah, now we get to the "anonymous dick-measuring" phase :)
Lady 3Jane.. · 2021-02-27 07:17
>>1652 Who do you even talk about with "you"? There are multiple people posting on lainchan and even more in this thread. And you seem to spend your whole day on lainchan. >I lived innawoods for months!!1! <yeah it was a house not a childrens house either! next to university >>1653 Also this, your stories would probably be cool to read in a different thread but you just use it for boasting in a thread that is about nature, not city parks. You seem to try making your claims more crediible or truthful by telling us things about your life that are hardly related. Btw if you would have lurked for some more days you would have probably noticed that camping and hiking is indeed a popular hobby for lains and you are absolutely not as special as you think you are.
Netrunner · 2021-02-27 20:49
>>1653 > "anonymous dick-measuring" ...started when you accused everyone but yourself of being brainwashed by the system. >>1654 >You seem to try making your claims more crediible or truthful by telling us things about your life that are hardly related Someone asked. >you seem to spend your whole day on lainchan. >if you would have lurked for some more days you would have probably noticed that blah blah blah You're not making a lot of sense with these two incongruous points. If anyone wonders why no one but a bunch of alt-rights posts here anymore, this thread is a great example.

there is no better feeling than looking from a peak and seeing nothing but untouched land. I dont mean to sound edgy/misanthropic but its nice to imagine for a few minutes what the world would look like if man never existed.
Nanashi No Gombe · 2021-03-02 00:24
>>1656 You wouldn't have to go very far back to see a world where nature was practically untouched. A few hundred years for a practically untouched world, only a few dozen for a world where life was far more abundant.
Hitomi · 2021-03-02 01:47
>>1657 Nowhere is really "untouched", even in early days human and neanderthal over-hunting killed off many large mammals, and huge areas were deforested even before the dawn of industrial logging. It would be interesting to see a world where humans never existed. It would also be interesting to see a world where humans never industrialized for one reason or another. In any case, it's also interesting to think about what the world will be like in the real future.

cxrpseslvt · 2023-09-30 04:11
>>1646 I agree, the nature and landscapes of the forest, etc. look damn beautiful than any city, although here you need to look at which city, if it is, for example, Krakow, or Vienna, then the architecture there is really beautiful, but all sorts of megacities like New York look disgusting
Dox · 2024-01-31 23:05
>>1630 Surroundings aren't beautiful, it is your internal mind in which the beauty is contained.

Bob Arctor · 2024-02-16 15:05
>>1630 >Obviously not in a city, but damn, trees and other plants are just perfect. did you ever pause for a second and wonder if maybe your idea of beauty is an evolutionary adaption that makes you seek out surroundings that will most likely not get your mammal ass get eaten by giant lizards? maybe there simply is nothing beautiful about a stupid tree and maybe the male spider's idea of getting turned on by the idea of getting eaten by a huge cunt isn't as much in his best interest as building space stations and transcending the limitation of flesh. just saying.
Ivan Petrov · 2024-02-16 15:38
>>1886 Aren't you mocking your own mindset with that image? What could beauty be beyond our idea of it, regardless of what caused us to have that idea? Say we are succeeded by artificial intelligence that is excellent at accomplishing things like building space stations and dyson spheres and making elaborate simulations and whatever. And maybe it continues some form of existence, maybe with a conscious ego, maybe not, until being consumed by the end of physics, or maybe it chooses a different end for itself, or maybe it is consumed by another vast entity in some universe spanning competition for survival. How is it fundamentally different than the spider? It will always be finite, and will always be tethered to the circumstances of its creation. If it can't take a minute to smell the flowers, it isn't really all that clever.

>>1888 beauty is universal to a species. stop hanging out with mentally ill freaks. >>1887 >Aren't you mocking your own mindset with that image? of course I am, lainon. I am very much aware that criticising any notion based on it being an inevitable function of human nature renders me and everything I say vulnarable to the very same criticism. It creates a fundamentally laughable situation in which you can either choose to ignore the fact that we all are looking at the world through the eyes of very smart apes or everything becomes meaningless nonsense. also it's probably the most obnoxious thing I ever heared anyone ever say (which makes me look way nicer compared to it). either way, the problem lies less in the fact that we as biological beings enjoy the things we are build to enjoy, but in the very likely circumstance that being preoccupied with the desires of our fleshly prison will result in suboptimal outcomes (read: dying instead of building space stations and dyson spheres) also simply stating you like trees is pretty much on the same level as saying 'I like pooping. afterwards I always feel better' <- thumbs up, buddy. >>1889 I think you are beautiful. keep up the good work, champ.
William Holtzer · 2024-02-16 18:28
>>1890 >but in the very likely circumstance that being preoccupied with the desires of our fleshly prison will result in suboptimal outcomes (read: dying instead of building space stations and dyson spheres) The real fleshly prison is the whole universe. Motoko Kusanagi · 2024-02-16 23:35
>>1892 Yes, I like science fiction. Becoming a living god is a fun idea, and I'd go for getting uploaded if it was an option, but I don't think it's more important than allowing yourself to experience the joy available to you in the moment. Compared to say a mouse, you already will live to oversee many times its lifespan, and wield impossible powers beyond its comprehension. But so what? And then you go up another tier. But if to get there you start worrying a little more about instrumental optimization and a little less about whatever else you started off caring about, you're going to end up as one of those grabby aliens duking it out over nothing at the end of history when everyone else is gone because they were smart enough to notice winning isn't worth the trouble.

Obviously my perception of and appreciation for the world is informed by what I am. That isn't deep or contrary. You're just being aggressive for no reason.
Spooky · 2024-03-30 07:47

Wild animals: A Glock 29 with penetrating rounds will take out a grizzly and is light enough to carry while hiking. But most animals will run away from you. And don't forget zinc oxide sun screen (and a hat and sunglasses).
