With the massive recent growing popularity in serial experiments lain on this newer generation Most notably the "cutecore" audience How do you feel it will affect the future of the series as well as this site's very own?
Arandista · 2023-07-11 18:29
Not much, this site is something like an internet niche, as far as the serious itself is concerned, perhaps a mainstream opinion of what it is about will come to be formed that might go against what the creator originally wanted to convey

Unless someone introduces this site to the masses, this site will always be and should always be niche.

will they really appreciate lain or is this just another one of those fads that will fade? at the very least i hope they won't replace the old fan culture

Anyone who uses "core" as a suffix must be gatekept with extreme prejudice.
Molly Millions · 2023-08-21 15:06
>>1085 I remember when -core meant hardcore genres and actually meant SOMETHING

>>1085 >>1086 The earliest online phenomenon with the "core" suffix that didn't relate to the word "hardcore" as in "hardcore p0rnography" or "that was so hardcore, dude!" was something called nightcore back in circa 2009. All it was was just taking random songs (typically trance and pop songs enjoyed by anime community) and speeding them up. That's it. Fast-forward 9 or so years and now there's a "core" for everything to describe anything. Cottagecore, laincore, animecore, cozycore, creepycore, etc. It doesn't even have to relate to music. Nightcore actually seemed to be have made a resurgence in recent years, as with many things from the 2000s era of online culture, since many Zillennials (people born around 1996 to 2001) have reached a collective nostalgia for their childhoods, except now nightcore is being called "sped up + reverb" or whatever, and the nightcore label is dropped, curiously. You might still find it used amongst circles that hold a better memory of the past, though.

>>1089 found a few of those obscure channels that have resurrected the Nightcore scene of the 2000s, complete with an affinity for 2000s style hyper-detailed big-eyed anime artwork for each thumbnail (contemporary for the time) and speeding up trance music from past familiar names as DJ Splash, Basshunter, Cascada, Tune-Up, etc. I remembered some of the anime pictures in these new channels' videos were used as wallpapers back in the day. The whole recreation is so accurate. It's honestly nostalgic for me and impressive how well people can, from memory and experience, recreate an era and its atmosphere/aesthetic/feel or whatever word is most appropriate to describe the collection of cultural expression with its accompanying motifs and tropes. Here are the channels I found, there's more, but it's hard to find them, but thankfully it feels like new ones are sprouting up every month: https://www.youtube.com/@SipFM_Oldschool https://www.youtube.com/@Nightcore.is.Hardcore https://www.youtube.com/@justady1111 https://www.youtube.com/@2muchtrance

>>1071 Recently I don't see lain itself getting that much popular. Just the normal turn around of a new generation discovering a beloved anime. Instead I see a huge boost for the band boa and their song duvet, which has gotten quite the push through tiktok. There will always exist some overlap between the two, but I don't see it that critically. The less serious and more silly audience that comes to the anime might be better, compared to some very stick up their ass people that exist. I'd rather see things evolve instead of forever being frozen in time.

>>1089 Damn, I miss listening to nightcore as a kid. Awwwww, you just awakened old, almost forgotten memories, lain.

>How do you feel it will affect the future of the series as well as this site's very own? 1. TIME TO LIVE! (TTL commemoration reference) 2. >>1105 >Instead I see a huge boost for the band boa and their song duvet, which has gotten quite the push through tiktok. Good. Tiktok generation gets to get acquainted to 1990s classics and may start asking questions like "Am I a machine?" without going full-on fandom. And maybe make some nice fanart using said TTLicense Back in my day, I also got *acquainted*, but that was it.
