Exploration Games

Ayylmao · 2018-06-06 00:58
What are some games that offer exploration of spaces that are actually interesting? I'm not talking about gathering collectibles or anything else.

Prey The Forest Beware GTA 5 7 Days To Die Kingdom Come: Deliverance Worlds Adrift

Yume Nikki Breath of the Wild Morrowind

>>940 >morrowind I can second this, have been playing it through for the first time this year and it is an incredible experience just to walk around read the books lying around in-game.

Shenmue is the only one that come to mind.

judging by OPs pic, i think he wants a walking simulator that isn't tryhard bullsoykaf. yume nikki and LSD dream emulator are the only ones that come to mind, but even they aren't all that deep compared to even the average open world games. i probably don't need to suggest bethesda rpgs, but that's just about the closest thing i've encountered. walking around aimlessly in skyrim is the best part of the game. sandbox rpgs are nice if you're into that kind of thing. minecraft, starbound, terraria.. i'm burnt out on them at this point but they're great exploration games. hoping other people have better suggestions than me because i tend to like these kinds of games too, but they're in short supply.

also, what do you mean by "interesting" OP? do you just want a world that's very detailed and thoughtfully constructed? do you just want a huge world to lose yourself in? do you want a world that actually has things to do in it? do you want something like bernband that is none of these things but has such a unique atmosphere that it doesn't matter?
Sipho Nkosi · 2018-06-10 18:24
>>949 "Interesting" means interesting. It's subjective. I don't want to get too specific and miss out on a good title. I do think Bernband is in some way representative of what I'm asking for, though. I guess it's nice to just head off in a direction at random and find something worthwhile and relatively unique out in the world.

Depending on how you define exploration games there are a number of opensource minecraft clones with huge worlds, including minetest. try on http://lgdb.org to find some of the mentioned ones. >>948 Game sen in ops pic is called bernard, available from http://gamejolt.com, its kinda crappy. You might be able to find many exploration games, but most will be crappy unity bullsoykaf hacks.

euro track simulator.
Lady Jessica · 2018-06-13 06:24
>>951 Yeah I like bernband but its not that deep. It has great atmosphere though. Gamejolt is pretty cool for finding weird walking simulators like that. I haven't had much success finding anything worth playing around with for more than an hour or so though. There was one that involved going through black doors in a building full of weird stacks of CRT tvs on an island, and another that was just a room full of VHS tapes that changed shader effects if you plugged them into a TV by the same dev. I wish I could remember the titles... I'll post if I can figure it out.

>>937 Play myst/riven if you haven't.

Ever try anarchy online? It has the usual mmo bullsoykaf item collection and gear hierarchy and level grinding, but it doesn't really force you to do that if you just want to explore. Which is awesome. It's very 90s-looking but the lore is interesting and it has all sorts of mega cities and atmospheric desert landscapes and ruins. More than other mmos, it really has a lot of space to be alone and get immersed in the universe without some minmaxing twink charging in with a stupid outfit and ruining the effect.

>>937 bernbrand (op pic related) scratched a very specific, very itchy itch for me too, OP. someone called it a "pleasantly lost" simulayor, ive never found anything that has come remotely close to this. i really want to make my own someday.
