What was a common gaming YouTuber opinion that you swear was just a collective gaslight? For me, it's that the melon shine in Mario Sunshine is completely reasonable and only takes like. One or two tries. That, and that Navi isn't very annoying.
Neo · 2025-09-12 09:22
I never played Mario Sunshine so I wouldn't know, but >Navi isn't very annoying. Isn't the meme the opposite though? That Navi IS annoying? She really is imo. That Cirno's "Icicle fall" is dumb and easy to beat. It really isn't, it's only in easy mode that you can beat it by staying stationary. That Pokemon generation 5 designs are stupid and ugly. They aren't that different from generations 3 and 4.
Incognito · 2025-09-12 10:34
There's literally about three points in the entirety of Ocarina of Time where you're actually forced to listen to what Navi has to say about something. Every other interaction with her can be completely ignored and skipped. Navi is massively overblown by people who haven't even played the game.
Lady 3Jane.. · 2025-09-12 11:33
The retcon that Dark Souls II is actually a masterpiece, when it was (correctly) regarded upon release as pretty bad by FromSoft standards (which means not terrible in absolute terms, but still not great).
Frank Garza · 2025-09-12 12:09
>>8748 That's what I meant, yeah. Worded it weird. I don't think Navi is very annoying, but it felt like I was the only one who thought that for a very long time. Hell, she's less annoying than Sahasrahla, if I'm being honest. Because, even though he never interrupts your gameplay, he's literally never useful no matter when you contact him. At least Navi gives you legitimately good tips as to where to go next if you're an idiot kid.

>>8746 "Sonic was never good." "Sonic's fundamentally flawed." "Sonic's OG trilogy hasn't aged well."
Lady Jessica · 2026-01-16 07:34
>>8751 I do think 2D Sonic was weird in that speed was a big part of the identity, but the games couldn't really be played fast if you weren't very familiar with the levels. I think 3D Sonic caught on to that, and that's why you got big setpieces and on-rails segments.
Aristóteles Amadópulus · 2026-01-16 08:39
>>9034 I've always felt that the original Super Mario Bros. is a better designed game for going fast. The levels are simple and predictable enough that you don't need deep knowledge to maintain a pace and can make adjustments as you encounter obstacles. Sonic on the other hand frustrates your speed at every opportunity if you don't know a level inside and out.
Dr. X · 2026-01-16 14:47
>>9034 >>9035 This is the main complaint I see and I don't think it holds up. Sonic's definitely made for speed, when you look at its physics, level design full of slopes, a character that's near invincible as long as you jump or roll, which you should always do when going down slopes, and thanks to a generous ring system where getting hit isn't a big deal and you can get back to it. You get hit sometimes, yes... like any video game, back then we were expected to replay things a lot anyways, and it worked.

People completely exaggerate how difficult the train mission in GTA:SA is when all you do is drive next to a train and let Big Smoke shoot everyone on it for a few minutes. I'll just choose to believe people pretend it's hard in order to add credence to the follow the damn train meme. I've only played on PS2 so I'll just assume that if the game is difficult on PC, then it's because the PC port is broken, Windows legacy support made it broken, or people playing it with 40 GB of patches and mods made it broken.

>>8746 recently i found you can actually clear out most of the birds by leading them onto the dock so they fall into water. i did find it to be a bit of a bitch. i guess people overall found it to be finicky. The lilly pad level is insanely overblown, i tried it once and ran out of lives so i figured id come back later and when i did i got it my first try. i did die once each trip on the yoshi but that was hardly a big deal either.
Hiro Protagonist · 2026-05-19 02:20
>>8749 I can somewhat get behind the argument for the colors of the game being nice, Bonfire Ascetics, and actual NG+, but holy soykaf people really fuarrrking praise this game way too hard. It is not deserving of such a hive mind to delude themselves into loving it. The level design is dog soykaf, the enemy placement is dog soykaf (I think they moved the enemies around in the DLC because of how bad it was), there are like 2 or 3 bosses in the game that actually stand out, it's clunky as soykaf, stat upgrading is retarded. I swear that the people who love this game are genuine redditors who will ride or die for it, because I don't see it anywhere else.
Switch · 2026-05-21 00:04
>>9042 I only played on PC, and it's not that straightforward. That fat nigger just miss them, he shoots the side of the train oftentimes. I found the best ratio while driving a little bit before the train, like 5 beters in front of it, so the fat fuarrrk has to shoot bsckwards, he hits them more often. If i just drive next to the train, he can't fuarrrking hit them.

>>8751 >>9034 >>9034 >>9036 Classic Sonic is a weird beast because despite it being advertised with focus on speed, the actual games still rewarded player for exploration and accurate platforming. It also does not help that Sonic's definition of "speed" in most cases boils down to holding one direction on a a pad and watching the blue fuarrrker go zoom through loops and hoops and run on the water. It looks impressive but ultimately is pretty boring?
Jet Black · 2026-06-05 23:09
>>9209 The speed part is kind of a ng+. You're supposed to explore when first playing the game, then try to finish levels as fast as possible to get a high score. >Sonic's definition of "speed" in most cases boils down to holding one direction on a a pad and watching the blue fuarrrker go zoom through loops and hoops and run on the water. It looks impressive but ultimately is pretty boring? You'll just die or get stuck if you do that. You need to jump and change direction at the right times if you want to complete a level without stopping.

That Bubsy 3D was the spawn of Satan and the worst game ever made in the history of games ever. It's meh. Subpar for sure, but you can get used to the clunky controls rather easily. People just desperately wanted to be the next AVGN and picked the lowest hanging fruit.
William Holtzer · 2026-06-07 08:23
>>9214 having played it while still fresh, it wasn't actually "bad". it definitely didn't meet SM64, but as a *very early* 3d platformer, it is adaquate. it is funny, campy, a little frustrating at times, but actually not awful. there are plenty of soykafe games from the era that are objectively worse. to a modern audience though, it does look & play poorly, so it makes sense if people find it easy to hate. not to scold the youths but "you had to have been there".
Naomi Nascimento · 2026-06-07 09:10
>>9219 >>9214 one thing about yertube retards btw, they usually just talk out of their asses. i used to go in for the stuff, but then i realized these are a bunch of arts program failsons & faildaughters, basically the barista class with a camera. most of these idiots never grow up, but try to wield advanced media analysis all while shaming anybody who sees the massive glaring errors attributable to their ideological biases. this has no specific allegiance, rightards do it too in case that isn't clear. most of these sheltered midwits never worked for their positions, just bitch and moan society isn't fair when they were raised on the cream scraped off most everyone else.

The whole silent hill thing. 2, 3, and even 4 work really well on an aesthetic level but the moment to moment gameplay was always really uneven and same with the writing. I would argue the post team silent games were actually better designed and written overall but weaker aesthetically.

Pokemon gen 5. Everybody hated it when it released, but when did it was the best thing ever. The 2.5D artstyle was peak, there were plenty good pokemon designs, the musik was memorable and the story still is the best of all the generations. Till today I argue that BW1 and 2 are the best mainline games of pokemon.
Lord Nikon · 2026-07-22 08:42
>>9309 I remember me and my friends were inpressed with all the new pokemon. Did people hate it? I never actually got past the beginning but I always wanted to play that one
SHODAN · 2026-07-22 10:41
>>9310 Yeah, many people complained about some not so original pokemon designs, but gen 5 had a lot of new mons and there were plenty good ones too. Another complaint was the linearity of the region, but bw2 added a lot of areas on top of the old ones, with a new path so that problem was alleviated. I absolutely recommend playing both bw and bw2, or maybe one of their romhacks if you are into that! The pokemon ds hacking community is really getting going lately, they have a discord, you should check it out ^^

>>9222 If I haven't played it before then how is it memory if I play it for the first time?
Incognito · 2026-08-27 08:43
>>9214 OP here, having revisited the game recently and played through it, I can say my opinion is mostly unchanged, if not improved a bit. Planning out on how to tackle a particular section of the map - looking for atoms to shoot at mobs or safe zones to retreat to - and then going for it until it's cleared one way or another, is quite satisfying. If the level- and mob design and the atom systems were designed with better synergy around that, this could have been a pretty entertaining game in it's own way.

>>9351 There seems to be a new Bubsy game from creators of Demon Turf. I'm a big fan of the later, and based on my experience with it, I'd expect Bubsy game to be great as well. They know how to cook 3d platformers.

Its actually that palworld was fun and humbling on a forever aron level. That game clearly should never have been purchased or played for more than 10 minutes. Yet, I am constantly seeing people mourning their end game and the player base dropping by like two million people over night. I didnt know youtubers could be taken seriously about anything until I saw it happen.
