Yume Nikki

What do you guys think of Yume Nikki? I discovered it last year and I'm surprised it isn't talked about more often on the net. Essentially it's LSD dream emulator built within the RPG-Maker engine. Of course it's not that simple, far from it, it's described as a dream-simulator and "having no objective", you explore and collect effects which on command can transform the player into a variety of strange creatures and forms. Though progression takes a backseat to exploration in my opinion. It's one of the few games I felt truly mentally intoxicated by, I can't really describe it in words but it's similar to viewing a captivating and immersive painting in person, Like a Botch or Dali work. If you played Yume Nikki you will know what I mean by this. There is an incredible amount of artistic depth to it. I only learned about how small the game is in terms of scope very recently, I won't fully spoil it for you incase you are unaware as a large part of the magic is the exploration and the feeling of being lost and the many other emotions you feel throughout. But it's very good at setting up an illusion. A lot of people consider Yume Nikki to be creepy or even unnerving, Some world's, sure, were definitely off but I never found them creepy. World's were more strange than anything to me. Each world has its own distinct and experimental direction which is one of the main things I enjoyed about Yume Nikki. I haven't played Yume 2ikki yet, but I plan on installing it finally after I get back home this Monday. what do you enjoy about Yume Nikki?

It is talked about on waves since it is well known on the internet. It has a lot of fan games too. It has nice vibes but I had to use the glitch that increases walking speed since Im impatient.

I loved it back when I first discovered it a lifetime ago (before the 2010s I believe...). But it's a hard replay unfortunately. And probably why it only gets talked about in waves each time a new generation discovers it.

It's a very surreal experience, hands down. I love the atmosphere that the music can sometimes create in many different worlds, I love how it throws out the core RPG elements and I love the many events that keeps going about in this game - be it the suspense of toggling a light switch to summon Uboa or admire the Aztec Rave Monkey, in all it's glory. If you want to enjoy Yume Nikki or any of its fangames online, try https://ynoproject.net/. Collective Unconscious (which is the site's original fangame) is something I've also enjoyed from time to time, considering how much effort was done for an excellent game, as well as the effort people helped others in exploring new worlds.

>>8664 Speaking of which: https://bsky.app/profile/ynoproject.bsky.social I read that Collective Unconscious is getting a new update in a couple of days' time, where some new maps were showcased. Ever since version 3.0 came out, many players enjoyed it, including myself.

Hey! Welcome to the YN club :) I heard about Yume nikki since forever ago, but only played it thoroughly a few years ago while killing time in college lectures. Made for a very nice game to play while listening to the equivalent of an audiobook. Since then, I played Yume 2kki ALOT. Doing it semi blind. Opting to use a map of the current area i am in sometimes when i get too disoriented. So far one of my favorite nikki games out there. >>8664 >Collective Unconscious I play it a couple times at work! The site that host the game also has the other more popular fangames like 2kki and .Flow Collective Unconscious is really fun to explore around in! I'm glad to hear it still gets new content :)

>>8850 YNOProject's going to drop a new update for Collective Unconscious this Saturday. And yes, .flow has been my all-time favourite YNFG, considering the body horror aesthetic entwined with the classic Yume Nikki mission of collecting effects and seeing events, like visiting the mysterious room event from the sewers. I still don't know what lies within the doorway because Sabitsuki is unable to enter it no matter how many times you try. Here's a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcbmyMImcBE

>>8657 It's the best lucid dreaming simulator that I know. I still sometimes visit Uboachan.

Its totally recommendable, the atmosphere and the worlds are worth exploring and there is a lot to see. A very worthwhile experience all in all, quite soothing but some is also disturbing despite its simplistic gameplay. Its been a while since i played it, i should replay it when i get the chance. The neon world is my personal favorite, i have very fond memories of it like very few games can provide. For those who havent tried it yet, go get it and play trough it atleast once, you wont regret it.
