inter guys what is your favorite mod of hearts of iron? mine is TNO(USER WAS WARNED FOR THIS POST, You should always elaborate on your opinions rather than just spilling the soykaf.)

>>8532 Mine's TNO as well. Old World Blues nearly beats it for me though. It does a great job at embodying Fallout as a series while simultaneously doing its own thing. The amount of unique mechanics in the mod like Eureka's merc mechanic help it not be so soykafty and boring like some mods.
My home town is its own nation though so I'm insanely bias.

Red Flood is officially the best and most sovlfvl HOI4 mod. TNO is very cringe, people who wage slave it with the usual 'Oh it's writing is so good and deep!' have surely never read a novel, or anything above HS tier. Sure you might say Red Flood is cringe because of how 'unrealistic' it is or how soykaf the 'writing' is (Entirely irrelevant on an alt-his map painting game.) but it entirely supersedes TNO's concept of a post-ideological parallelist narrative. RF is at it's base a better TNO entirely because of how uncommitted it is to 'real life history' (An incoherent term in the context of Hearts of Iron IV, a game where you either win as Nazi Germany by invading the entire world, or you lose in 1946 due to 900 divisions landing on Aquitaine because your subs ran out of fuel.). It's also just more fun because you actually play it the way the base game is meant to be played-- by building up to a big war and then actually fighting it.
In the same vein, the second best would be Kaiserredux, who's equally uncommitted to the stupid idea of a 'realistic alt-his WW2 scenario'. But KX is fun only because of its content and sandbox quality, it does not have the world-building post-ideological narrative element TNO and RF attempt.
It's a shame RF has not received and will never receive the same level of focus, attention and development TNO, with its (real-life) schizophrenic and (real-life) transexual team.

are there any good mods that make the US political situation more fun/plausible feeling? I get some amusement about the idea of father calley teaming up with william pelley and adolf hitler to launch a neo confederate (which apparently means fascist imperial) state that depends on foreign firearm imports to arm its soldiery at least during the civil war...but it just feels cartoonish, the insane fantasy of some swedes who know nothing about my country but spent a few minutes skimming wikipedia or something.

I haven't played tno because I have heard that it turns the game into a visual novel where player skill is practically irrelevant. is this true?

Depending on your nation, ymmv.
Russian “battle royale” is more traditional HOI4 than Italy or the United States. But like other overhaul mods there’s a lot (a lot) of reading, and it locks you out of some mechanics for the sake of narrative progression. To OP’s question i love RT56, or Kaiserreich if i want a narrative experience. I like TNO, i love the themeing - the dread of a Fascist Germany-led world post WWII but it’s more into the “visual novel” venn circle.

HOI4 is a iconic song cover soundtrack with a game attached to it. Haha.
