I've been playing final fantasy 12 on my ps2 lately. I thought I wouldn't like any of the newer final fantasy games but I ended up really liking this one. it's like a real time with pause battle system but you can also move your characters around. the aesthetic is a lot more classic final fantasy than some of the ones that came before it, and it takes place in the same world as final fantasy tactics. it's not a fan favorite, but if you like the series and haven't tried it I highly recommend.
Cereal Killer · 2025-01-13 19:50
Shadow of the Colossus
Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3
I remember playing a lot Brothers in Arm

I recommend the first Atelier Iris game. It was the one and only PS2 rom I downloaded and completed since the emulator I used was very janky and caused audio skipping. It was still enjoyable.
I would say Ico but the PS3 version is so much better. I would also say Onimusha but the Steam version exists.

I recommend you play the actual Battlefield 2, and avoid this dumbed-down trash that lead to the eventual ruin of the series.
Lady 3Jane.. · 2025-01-31 00:04
the silent hill series is probably my favorite video game series of all time I highly recommend

BF2 Modern Combat has nothing to do with the PC BF2 at all. It's a complete spin off, that was nothing like any BF game that came before or after. Literally no idea why you're this upset unless you're some PC-only grognard, because BF2:MC gets universal praise from anyone that has actually played it. I'm only talking about the singleplayer campaign here, it's a point and combo-based arcade shooter with an very cool gimmick where you can warp into taking control of any friendly soldier in your line of sight, which is one of the best game mechanics in any FPS game ever. It's highly underrated, and probably the second best 6th generation console shooter.

Seconding Atelier Iris. I had a good time with it back in the day.

I'm shocked no one mentioned The Mark of Kri.
Great action/stealth with intuitive controls and some of the best kill animations. Right up there with the Tenchu series.

If you're looking for good PS2 games, I would recommend checking out /v/'s recommended games. They have a PS2 section with titles worth considering.
https://vsrecommendedgames.miraheze.org/wiki/PlayStation_2
I assume it was compiled by members of 4chan/v/ but I don't know.
Nonetheless, I've used this multiple times as I consider it to be a pretty good list. Even if you don't approve of everything on the list, it should feature something that you would like.

Old post I know but someone might be wondering about this. Get a memory card with OPL on it and then you can either use the internal HDD or a Samba share on your LAN to load games. You can power a Raspberry Pi 3 offering a share from the USB port and keep your games on there. The Ethernet port has faster data transfer than USB so if you've got a slim PS2 this is your best option.
>>9305
It's not the case with the enhanced edition mod nowadays, but the original release of Silent Hill 2's PC port was much worse than the PS2 version. Plus your emulator might let you slap a cozy CRT filter on it if you don't have the space to have one at home.
>>8165
Kaido Racer 2/Kaido Battle 3/Tokyo Xtreme Racer: Drift 2 (depends on the region) is pretty good if you like Initial D. This one was only ever on the PS2.
Oni could be worth a look, though this might be on PC too. It's a Ghost in the Shell inspired action game.

>Tokyo Xtreme Racer
Is the 2025 one worth playing or stick to the classics? I'm not sure which one is the best to play though.
>Oni
Oni was great but I got filtered on one of the harder bosses because I put my game on hard mode and you can only collect so many heals per level. Mukade has one of the coolest character designs I have ever seen though.
